Café Deinz — Restaurant in Stuttgart

Very mixed feelings. It definitely could have been much better, but it turned out the way it did. Unfortunately.

At first everything was quite good: cozy atmosphere, nice coffee, good sandwiches, decent cakes, very nice and polite staff. But then it got a little worse... we tried to pay for the food, but it turned out that Visa and MasterCard are not accepted. Paypal and IBAN payments are also not accepted. This was quite a surprise for me, because over the past few years I cannot remember a case when I had to pay in cash for something... and if the business is official and legal, then there should always be payment details... In case when this is not possible, then at least a warning about it in advance would be helpful, so that we know in advance whether we will be able to pay in the end or not. In our case, we did not have cash with us, but there was an ATM nearby, across the road. The staff politely offered to withdraw money. We tried, but the ATM did not work very well (despite the fact that there was an NFC reader, it did not work, and could not read all physical cards). When we returned, we explained that we had failed to withdraw money and suggested that we go to another ATM and try there, but the owner of the establishment intervened and said that he could not let anyone go until they paid (looks like a significant trust issues... I can't blame them for this, there have probably been some unpleasant cases before, but we did not plan to do anything like that and sincerely wanted to sort this out as quickly as possible, pay for the food and services provided, and leave). I suggested that we leave something as a deposit while we walk around and try to withdraw money (or until we get home and get cash there), but the owner of the establishment refused, which shocked me for the second time... after some time, he suggested that we transfer the money to his account (although I asked about this at the very beginning, as one of the payment options...). We were there on a Sunday afternoon and asked for vegan options before sitting down. Luckily (as it turned out later) we happened to speak directly to the chef and he was super friendly and helpful and offered a few dishes that he could whip up for us that were not on the menu. I had grilled egg plant with tomato sauce and my partner pasta with homemade spinach/rucola pesto and almond flakes. The waitress was new as she told us and we could feel that in her serving skills (asking whether we want cheese in our vegan pasta, her long hair hanging in our plates when serving them, forgetting our drinks, leaving us to wait for 15 minutes before we could pay etc.). When I addressed this feedback to the chef (who apparently is also the owner) he reacted super friendly and apologized and took it seriously. UPDATE (Ergänzung): Das gute bei Google Bewertungen ist, diese können jederzeit abgeändert oder angepasst werden, somit kann sich niemand auf „guten“ Bewertungen ausruhen...

Das erste mal muss ich hier leider eine 5-Sterne Bewertung anpassen bzw. auf eine 3-Sterne Bewertung abwerten, was echt schade ist... GRUND = Am 04.03.2020 wollte ich mit einem Kollegen zum 2. Mal ins Café Deinz, laut den Öffnungszeiten bei Google und auch beim 1. Besuch geäußert sollte hier bis 23 Uhr geöffnet sein und sogar warme Küche sein.

Aufgrund dieser Tatsache entschieden wir uns nicht in Kirchheim/Teck zu Essen, sondern hier in Hedelfingen einzukehren, wo man uns beim Betreten entschuldigend mitteilte (21:04 Uhr), das man gerade schließen möchte.... Die Entschuldigung nahmen wir als gegeben an, darum auch nur 2 Sterne Abwertung, statt noch mehr. Doof für uns, extra nicht woanders zum Essen eingekehrt zu sein und dann hier letztlich auch vor „verschlossener“ Türe zu stehen. Der Zweite Besuch war für uns somit erst mal ein Reinfall!

Gestern das erste mal dort gewesen und wirklich positiv überrascht worden. Wir hatten ein sehr leckeres Tiramisu zum Cappuccino gehabt, sehr cremig und lecker. Das Café hat ein echt schönes Ambiente und das Servicepersonal super nett und freundlich, hier kommt man gerne hin. Sogar eine Ingwerlimonade die nicht auf der Karte stand wurde uns zubereitet und war sehr lecker 😋 (Bitte auf die Karte mit aufnehmen)
