I'm from Sonora. So... My standards are authentic which is tough to live up to in Germany. I REALLY REALLY wanted this place to be good. Sadly, they tried but ultimately fell short of their promises. The waitress was very kind and the ambience was kinda cute. The chips were good. Salsa & guacamole were ok but lacked authentic flair. Margarita was basic but strong and tasty (I liked it). That's where the pros ended and the cons began. Boxed taco shells were a bit stale (did they forget to toast them?). Beef was ground, not shredded, and had smoke flavor but no tastable green Chile. Pork was kind of weirdly sweet. Pico de gallo was almost entirely onions with barely any tomatoes and little to no salt/lime/garlic/peppers/cilantro. Flour tortillas were puffy and hard to cut (store bought). Nothing had much flavor. Beans were utterly flat. Red rice was cold and boring. Ultimately a small step up food-wise from Taco-Bell but honestly not much. It was not "fine" food. The prices were outrageously expensive for what it was though. Mexican food is notoriously cheap bc the ingredients are cheap: Beans, rice, corn, tomatoes, onions, cheap meat. How they manage a 14€ + burrito here... I simply can't figure out. They REALLY inflated the prices here. I undoubtedly won't eat here again (despite how desperate I am for a taste of home... which this was not really), but if I'm desperate for a margarita and some chips, maybe I'll come back. A good Margarita goes a long way in Europe. End recommendation: if it's your first time eating Mexican food, then come with a fat wallet and no sense of what Sonoran Mexican food is actually like and you'll get something pleasantly different than German food that might satisfy you. But if you know what you're hoping for, stick only to the drinks and chips, and spare yourself the...
Read moreA few lessons learned after visiting this restaurant Make a reservation. They won’t even look to see if accommodation is possible without one. Menu is simple and in reality, all the same but with different prices. My husband’s “chimichanga” was the same as my “enchilada” which was the same as my children’s “burritos.” Save your money and order the burritos which are slightly cheaper. Overall, prices are unreasonably overpriced. I can’t speak to the price of other drinks but we were astonished to have been charged close to €20 for tap water for our family. We wanted still water which they don’t have bottles for. We were informed we would be given by the glass… um ok… that’s fine. We then get the bill to find out that means we have to pay €3.50 per glass of non-bottled water….. almost €20 for sink water for our family. The waitress kept repeating that she “warned us it would be by the glass and it was listed on the menu.” Maybe next time your warning should include that “by the glass” means a charge of €3.50 for water that is not even bottled. No one should have to check a price for water on a menu. This is not normal- we had been in Germany for over a week and have lived in Europe for 3 years. We have never paid so much for water in a glass. Coming from the US, being raised in Houston itself, I cannot recommend the food as real Mexican food. The chips are good, salsa is like canned tomato sauce and the guacamole is gummy and looks like it’s from a can. Enchilada is covered by a few pieces of cheese and chimichanga was slightly grilled a light brown- all wrong in real authentic Mexican food.
Alas, our search for local Mexican...
Read moreWe were really disappointed by the treatment of the chef/ owner. We came here with our two kids. Our younger one is only two and we are aware that it’s not always ideal to take a young child to a restaurant but it was very early and there was only one other couple in the restaurant sitting across the room. While we were waiting for our food somebody came into the restaurant and for some reason our toddler started crying because he got scared. Everyone who has kids knows that situations like that happen. Yes he did cry loudly but we immediately tried to calm him down. However In a matter of seconds the owner came storming out of the kitchen telling us in a very rude way that he can’t deal with that and that we need to take that child outside immediately. We were so shocked. We did step outside to calm our child down but we should have actually just left after this incident. Instead we decided to change our order to take away and waited outside. This is just one of the rudest things we have ever experienced. On top of that the food was only average and overpriced. If you have eaten real Mexican food before, it’s not the place to go and especially stay away if you have young children. One star for the nice waitress who was trying. However she also told us right before we left that next time we should just order online. Obviously, there won’t be...
