We reached this place after a hike and were in the mood for something sweeter. We had heard a lot about Kaiserschmarn and wanted to give it a try to see what the hype is all about. The place is usually very crowded on a sunny day and not all the benches can give you cover from the sun heat. So you gotta choose your seat very carefully :) we had to change places to get a good seats outside to cover from the sun.
Service can take a bit long before they take your order and sometimes it is confusing who is responsible for your table. One waitress took our order for Kaiserschmarn and 2 cappucinos and told us it can take good 20 mins for this to arrive. So she would bring cappuncio later with our sweet dish we were craving for. Too bad, she forgot to pass on our cappucino order. So we waited for at least 30 mins before our Kaiserschmarn arrived, but not our favorite drink. So we had to order with another waitress our coffee again. We waited for now 8-10 mins before they brought our coffee. So, not the optimal service experience
Four of us ordered 2 plates. The portion is quite huge and is good for 2 people, unless you are super hungry and want to have a sweet meal, then its a different story. It came with apple muse, but none of us liked it. It was lacking the hype that we had heard of. Not sure if it was this place or if it is too high hype :/
I wont try again Kaiserschmarn...

We came here on a tour to the Baumgartenschneid from Tegernsee. After hiking up about 400 meters, this was just the perfect place to do an "Einkehr". With a lot of traffic on the weekends it was a bit difficult to find a good table but once we were seated, we were very positively surprised:
The servers were extremely friendly, fast, and the food arrived quickly (1 min wait time for Kaiserschmarrn!). Portion sizes were huge, the Kaiserschmarrn (with rum-raisins, a whole jar of apple jam, and caramel, yummy!), lentil soup, tortellini soup and potato salad were fantastic.
The view was breathtaking, one can see around the Tegernsee as well as a lot of Austrian alps (e.g., Großvenediger). We were above a low hanging cloud front and the ever-changing panaroma made our mouths gape open in awe.
Payment could be done very quickly (attentive servers). Strengthened by the food and positive experience, we moved onwards with our tour. ⚠️ cash only ⚠️, but it's Germany, so you should...
Read moreView is beautiful, Kaiserschmarn is good and big enough for at least two people, staff are friendly but run off their feet. It was extremely busy when we were there, difficult to get a table and the food took a long time, coming out sporadically - one of our party was finished before another had even received their food. Although that’s pretty standard in a Bavarian Gasthof, these delays can be challenging after a hike, especially for children, so bring more snacks than you think you’ll need! The restaurant had stopped serving full lunches by 14:30, when we arrived, but they did still have soup, sausages, and a beautifully presented salami plate. A soup, salami plate, sausages, 2 soft drinks, 3 beers and a Kaiserschmarn came to about €70. ⚠️Although it was stated on the back of the menu, we did not discover until the end of our meal that they ONLY ACCEPT CASH, and there is no bank machine, which presented us with some...
