As I am a paraplegic, I was unable to stay at my relative's home in Engen. Instead they found a disabled friendly room at Rasthaus im Hegau only a few minutes away from my family. Our hotel room was very good with plenty of room to wheel around. The toilet had pull down rails. There was a wheel-in shower with a good rail and a plastic chair was supplied. The bed was comfortable and there was a small refrigerator. We are next to the Autobahn however we could not hear traffic noise from our room. Each morning of our stay, we enjoyed a delicious buffet breakfast supplied by friendly staff. Other meals are available during the day and evening. It seemed a very popular spot for tourist buses as well as a truck stop. My family showed us the sights including the beautiful town of Engen with so many old buildings. As well it was a good location to drive to other attractions in the surrounding area such as Radolfzell, Gaienhofen and...

My family and I checked in at the reception desk early to acquire our room keys. We were in the process of moving from one home to another, so we expected a late arrival at the hotel. We secured two rooms to accomodate our family of four. When we arrived, one room was clean; however, the other room was left dirty from the previous occupants. The beds were disheveled, a bug was crawling on the mattress sheet, wet towels were on the floor, and used drinking glasses were present. We immediately telephoned the reservation desk, and while they were kind and understanding, they asked if there was an extra set of clean bedding in the room for us to use, insinuating we should sleep in a filfthy room. We were left to find alternative accomodations at the last minute (in the middle of the night) and cancelled our five-night reservation.
