Kolmenhof inn at the Breg spring — Restaurant in Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Furtwangen im Schwarzwald

We stayed at the Kolmenhof ahead of a bike trip we'd planned, travelling from the source of the Danube to Budapest and back. The official source of the Danube is right outside this hotel making it a very convenient hotel to stay to kick off our adventure.||||The Dold family were more than welcoming and very helpful to us, giving us great local advice and offering real flexibility about our return journey booking at the hotel.||||The staff at the Kolmenhof were also really friendly and did everything they could to help with small issues (like digging out a UK plug adapter - we'd forgotten ours!) A special thanks to Julia who remembered the requirement for gluten free bread without prompting! ||||The rooms at the Kolmenhof are of various sizes, some big enough to accommodate families. Our room was delightful with a view directly over the source of the Danube. The setting of the hotel is wonderful - it would be a challenge to find anywhere as tranquil, and the Black Forest is a delightful backdrop. The restaurant food and breakfast , along with the service were excellent. We would definitely recommend this hotel and we'd love to go back. We booked the family room of the Kolmenhof for a family weekend in the Black Forest. The room, more a suite, was very spacious and recently renovated with high quality materials: living room with tv and DVD, separate bedrooms for the children and the parents and a very large bathroom with shower. Next to the Gasthof is a source of the Danube and a small chapel. The surroundings are ideal for hiking, cross country skiing or snowshoe walking. The nearby German watch museum in Furtwangen is worth a visit. The restaurant offers German cuisine, not overly sophisticated but honest food from locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast included. There is also a common games and television room for the guests and a corner with toys for the children. Wifi is free but a bit unstable. Only regret is we left a hairbrush which could not...
