Krone Waldburg — Restaurant in Verwaltungsverband Gullen

Like many of the Hotels in the area, the Krone is the unfortunate victim of declining travel to the region. The Owners, offer a very nice restaurant which brings in the locals and local business looking for a nice dinner for guests, but the actual hotel property itself is quite shoddy. The ground floor is in relatively good shape. An I must add that the rooms are not all that bad. However my room was extremely dusty, and the countertop was littered with crumbs from a previous guest's snack. The Stairway, and halls un the upper floors are well worn (the carpet on the staircase having lost all of its colour and now is a mottled dirt brown colour) and Hall furniture is quite obviously leftover bits of 60s and 70s pieces which were simply to difficult for someone to rid themselves of. The Hotel highlights it's Sauna and pool area, They however charge extra for this, which seemed a bit over the top. The staff, being faimly owned, was quite friendly. I believe they were in the process of renovating a distillery-room on the premisses. If they do not renovate the hotel soon, they will need to resort to the restaurant and sales of the distillate only... Have a dinner and a drink here if you happen to be in the area, but don't bother with staying here. Drive a little further to Ravensburg, or Wangen. If they announce they have renovated, then I would...

I have been staying in this hotel for the past five years for business trips...no one goes much to the Krone region, which is way out of Friedrichschafen. Like the previous reviewer, I would agree that the hotel needs a makeover...fast...if its going to keep its regulars coming. We arrived on a Monday and the restaurant was closed...we had to have food after a long drive from Italy so the next door hotel (another hotel that is in need of a serious makeover!) was the next best choice. Like the previous reviewer I would agree the only nice thing this hotel offers is the restaurant. Unfortunately, there isn't much to do in this part of the woods, apart from walking or cycling and visiting a nearby castle on a hill, so its pretty much quiet.....Ravensburg, about 13 km away and accessible by bus, is a much more quaint place and the closest village to the hotel, with some life! If not for the Keppeler family, I would have stopped patronising the hotel altogether years back. The junior Keppeler is pleasant, helpful and speaks English....which is a bonus in this...

Um 21 Uhr ins Bett gegangen, hatte ich direkt 2 Stiche von einer Bettwanze oder einem anderen Insekt. Nachts um halb 3 von einem durchdringenden Piepsgeräusch im Zimmer wach geworden. Beide Nummern der Rezeption unbesetzt (Anrufbeantworter) mit Verweis auf eine Handy Nummer. Nach langem Klingeln geht ein Mann dran, fragt ob das Piepsen vom Feuermelder kommt, das hatte ich vorher narurlich schon ausgeschlossen, wie auch alle anderen möglichen Geräuschquellen. Schlecht gelaunt behauptet er dann mal gleich, das müsse von mir kommen, er selbst könne aber nicht vorbei kommen. Natürlich ist das durchdringende Geräusch nicht von mir, ausser einem Handy von dem ich ihn gerade Anrufe, habe ich nur Kleider dabei. Ich entschuldige mich für den späten Anruf. Auf meine Bitte, dass man so wirklich nicht schlafen kann und ich gerne ein anderes Zimmer hätte, legt er einfach auf. Geht auch nicht mehr ans Telefon. Zwei SMS bleiben unbeantwortet, im Haupthaus des weitläufigen Gebäudekomplexes ist auch nach Klingeln niemand erreichbar. Die anderen Gäste schlafen natürlich, ich will niemanden wecken. Das Geräusch lässt sich auch nach einer Stunde Suche nicht räumlich lokalisieren. Es ist auch nicht einfach zu überhören, selbst mit Toilettenpapier in den Ohren. Bei meiner Suche finde ich noch eine Pritsche in der still gelegten Sauna, die ist mir auf Dauer dann zu unbequem. Ich hab das Geräusch mal in einem Audio File fest gehalten. Bin mal gespannt was morgen die Rückmeldung ist. Nach 2 wachen Stunden, hoffe ich jetzt einfach, dass der Schlaf mich doch übermannt. Nie wieder Krone Waldburg, so viel ist...
