This was our first stop on a driving tour of Germany and at the top of the “Romantic Road”, chosen for free parking, breakfast, wifi and the location slightly out of the city. On arrival reception was unattended and the staff uninterested so we had to wait a while to check in and a second visit to reception later confirmed our impression that the hotel is secondary to the restaurant as we and another guest had to wait for ages for service. It was a lovely quiet location away from the centre and a good sized room in the annexe with a large bathroom and plenty of power sockets but no tea/coffee making. There was an excellent breakfast buffet with friendly service and a good selection of cold meats, cheese, fresh fruit, cereals and bread. We were able to park right outside off the road and it’s an easy drive into the city. It would be completely unsuitable for anyone with more than a slight walking disability due to all the steps. Wireless Internet is NOT in all the rooms as stated in their advertising and on the second floor of the annexe the cable access is sporadic and slow so would not suit a business user. Strangely in this day and age they only take CASH so make sure you have enough on you! At the bottom of the road on the opposite side of the main road there is a very passable outdoor restaurant “Biergarten am Zollhaus”, and would definitely recommend a visit to the Residenz where there is ample inexpensive pay parking right in front...
Read moreThis is a lovely little hotel, situate about 1.5 miles outside the city - walkable but only just. The tram stops at the end of the small hill that the hotel is situate on though and runs every 15-20 mins. All day ticket is 4.45 euro - bought at machine at tram stop. This entitles you to jump on and off trams and buses all day.||||Very clean and modern (I was in the new wing). Looked like a brand new shower room with a lovely powerful shower. Breakfast was a good continental one. ||||Only downside was that, and I know this is a very british thing to say, I only know a little german - really only the pleasentries, but the people at the hotel don't speak much english either so communication was very difficult. My fault too, admittedly. But being on my own I felt a little out of my depth.||||And there was no kettle or tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. Although there is a hairdryer and a TV (only news channels in english) ||||Payment is in cash only but its very good value for such a nice hotel with a very big beer garden for relaxing in.||||I would definitely stay again but I'll be coming with my family, and my son speaks good german so should find it even better this time around (and I'll be bringing my kettle!)||||Try the Pizza restaurant at the Alter Kranen -...
Soweit so gut. Dann...
