Better than (at least equal to) authentic Italian pizza in Italy! 100% would recommend to everyone! Especially those with a passion for real, authentic Italian pizza.
The highlight (to me at least) was the tomato sauce. Like a true Italian, the tomato sauce clearly is his pride and joy. And with good right, a very rich tomato flavor. This tomato sauce was better than any tomato sauce I had in Italy (and we've tried a lot)!
The crust was perfect. Not hard, or chewy, but it was soft and fluffy with the perfect amount of crispiness. In the middle it was very thin, just like Italians prefer it. The flavour was amazing! So amazing in fact, that if he were a baker, I would buy his bread every day! So rich in flavor! Perfect!
The ingredients are perfect too. Especially the pineapple (← that was a joke! I'm just joking! I would never order such an aberration 🤭). Joking aside though, the ingredients were perfectly fresh, and delicious.
We were just on our way through as tourists (we went to Xanten that day) and our youngest kid asked for pizza. I would have never guessed we would feel like we were back in Italy! The kids still talk about that pizza place, they were that much impressed (and so were me and my wife). The owners were very nice, the kids loved them. The food was very affordable (drinks were as expensive as anywhere else, certainly not more expensive). Everything was very clean. Portion sizes were perfect for a full meal.
As for the negatives... Well, our experience was so good, these 'negatives' didn't bother us that much. TV was a bit distracting (Italian music channel), but then again... It's the workplace of a true Italian mastermind. For me, it was really just part of the Italian experience. After about half an hour, I even began appreciating the music.
Then there is the linguistic barrier. I wish I were more proficient in Italian or German. I think we could have talked for hours about the perfect dough and tomato sauce 😉 But practically, the language barrier wasn't limiting. We could order food, drinks, and pay with ease.
I wish this restaurant was 300km closer to where we live, then we would eat here every week!
One last thing: I wonder how a wood-burning pizza oven would have affected the taste. 🤔 I'm sure the owner, as a true passionate Italian chef,...
Sehr...
