Taverna Maria — Restaurant in Agia Municipality

Taverna Maria is a classical family business where all hands are on the deck. You can eat traditional greek food with a lot of taste and be assured that every dish is served fresh (you can tell that either the vegetables and the meat are just prepared - they are not defrozen in a microwave oven). We enjoyed the cooking very much. Service is excellent, Thomas and whole his family are really nice and friendly people, always kind and happy to help (they even recognized us on the road to Kalypso Waterfall when we lost our way and gave us a lift on the back of their pickup truck!). Also what needs to be told - Thomas is one of very, very few people in Kokkino Nero who speak fluent english. The only suggestion my girlfriend wanted to add is that she would be happy to see more vegetable-based dishes in a standard menu!

First of all, let me tell You that it is not an ordinary restaurant You can find anywhere in Kokkino Nero. Tawerna Maria is a living legend. We have heard about this amazing place already at polish airport, on the way to Greece! Tempted with great review we have stepped in for a drink and a small appetizer. We have stayed for the whole trip, enjoying ourselves every night. It's not only the food that kept us there - btw delicious fresh, homemade food - but the overall hospitality and great atmosphere provided by Thomas, his wife Stella and In-Laws. You should definetelly try on grilled lamb (available every Saturday) and sea food. Every moment spent in Tawerna Maria was a pleasure and we are looking forward to our next visit there. We were in Kokkino Nero for a few days, every day looking at local restaurants. But this one always had the best authentic energy and delicious smell of cooking coming from it. And then we went there, once before the lunch hours, while it had few guests, and second time, when they were full. The quality is the same, energy too and the hospitality of Mr. Tomas and his colleagues was just right. Food was fresh, delicious and rich in flavours. Portions are big, the prices justified. They also have a small shop of local products. My husband and I highly recomend this restaurant, and thank everyone in the team for warm welcome and beautiful memories.
