Stou Giorgou — Restaurant in Chios Municipality

As a well seasoned traveller to Chios I always look forward in trying new dining experiences and I must admit there are some awesome restaurants in Chios and some that I keep on returning to that never disappoint. Unfortunately our experience at "Stou Giorgou" fell well sort of our expectations. Food was very average and hospitality by the waiter minimal to none, it maybe because we took him away from watching TV when we kindly asked for some beverages. It seems to be a custom on the island that when requesting the account / bill that they serve a small portion of complimentary sweets/ ice cream / fruit as a thank you suggester, as I assumed this did not happen. Facilities looked tired, road leading to the restaurant needs caution as you are required to travel up some very narrow streets ( very old horse and cart roads ) that can only take one car at the time, so be prepared to do some long reversing if you get stuck halfway down the street. Scenery is slightly higher then the surrounds and you have a outlook towards Turkey and eastern side towards the airport area, I am not a fan of looking a roof tops of houses so I found that not so pleasant. I doubt I would return back to "Stou Giorgou " as there is simply way better offers on the Island contrary to other reviews left here. Enjoy this...

A few minutes outside the center of Chios town, on a hillside with a beautiful view, you’ll find this wonderful restaurant. The location alone sets the tone for a memorable dining experience.

The place is warm and welcoming, the staff truly exceptional, attentive, friendly and always ready to help. The food speaks for itself: every dish we tried was delicious and carefully prepared. We were two people and ordered a variety of plates and everything was outstanding.

One detail that really stood out was the honesty of the service. When we asked if we had perhaps ordered too much, our waiter kindly suggested we could skip the fries since all the main dishes already included them. It’s rare to find this kind of genuine care in a restaurant and it made a great impression on us.

Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions offered, making it accessible to everyone. We sat outside and although it was a bit windy, it didn’t take away from our comfort or the enjoyment of the meal.

Food quality yes but quantity too small for price asked ( e.g. 9 euros for a few fries & 4 tiny pieces of meat). It’s one of these rare times when I order 3 dishes at a taverna, I’m not full. Location is lovely however.

Apart from this, my main concern was the service. We were a party of 2, EU foreigners & probably the only ones during our service. We got paired with a borderline rude waiter who avoided speaking to us or looking in the eyes at all times. Not surprising to see him give us 2 thin slices of “complimentary” watermelon to share meanwhile next table, party of 4 (Greek only) got treated to 4 slices of chocolate cake + ice cream and a plate full of watermelon slices - all on the house

It’s discriminatory & it doesn’t even make sense business wise.

I have lived almost 4 years in Greece & I don’t always leave a comment for all bad customer service I receive from Greek restaurateurs but I’m getting tired of this treatment by people who clearly made a choice to work in the service/tourism industry but cannot put their personal (xenophobic)...
