As a family of 4 adults, we spent 4 days here just before Christmas. The lodging was warm, comfortable and spacious. Care had been given to furnishings and a lovely fireplace was tucked into the corner of the room. Firewood was constantly provided by the management without having to ask. The dining area was country quaint in decoration, a welcoming view out to the mountains and Christmas touches were added throughout. The breakfast menu was wonderful....hot bread, fresh butter, homemade jams and conserves, cheese, eggs...a hearty fare. The owners and their help were warm, caring and went out of their way to tend to our every need. The restaurant had a wide range of choices from local fare such as boar stifado stew to more typical choices of meat casseoles, bean soup and items from the grill. I highly recommend Mesostrati! We went here to celebrate our engagement and had such delicious home cooked food. The saganaki was the best I’ve had in Greece! My fiancée had something similar to a beef lasagne which was divine and my lamb chops were so incredibly succulent. As we were leaving we asked if they had a small jar of honey we could take home on our flight. They didn’t but they improvised and gave it to us for free! Για την 1η μας μέρα στο Καρπενήσι αποφασίσαμε να γευματίσουμε στο συγκεκριμένο εστιατόριο έχοντας διαβάσει όλες αυτές τις κριτικές. Δυστυχώς η εμπειρία μας δεν ήταν του ίδιου επιπέδου των κριτικών. Η συμπεριφορά του προσωπικού εκτείνονταν από υπερβολική και χοντροπρεπή οικειότητα μέχρι την τυπική ευγένεια κάποιων νεαρών παιδιών. Δεν υπήρχαν τα πιάτα που θέλαμε για κύρια. Παραγγείλαμε μοσχαράκι κοκκινιστό με μακαρόνια, μία ψητή πέστροφα και μια σαλάτα μεσοστράτι. Η σαλάτα καίτοι χαρακτηριζόταν και τιμολογούνταν ως κάτι σπέσιαλ, δεν έλεγε και πολλά. Κυριαρχούσε το μαρούλι, έψαχνες να βρεις τα υπόλοιπα υλικά και η σως απλά πρόσθετε λίγη λιπαρή ουσία και τίποτε από γεύση. Κοντεύοντας να φάμε τη σαλάτα με ψωμί καταφτάνει το κοκκινιστό μοσχάρι με τα μακαρόνια, σκληρό κομμάτι, θα μπορούσαν να είχαν πιο τρυφερό κρέας. Μέχρι να φαγωθεί το πιάτο φτάνει και η πέστροφα, στεγνή με μισό λεμόνι και τα παντζάρια συνοδευτικό, τέλος πάντων, ζήτησα και έφεραν και λίγο λάδι. Νόστιμη και καλά ψημένη. Η αίσθηση ήταν ότι ζούσαμε ένα τρίπρακτο πιάτων με λάθος σειρά Στο τέλος ακολούθησε το γαλακτομπούρεκο που ήταν και ο κύριος λόγος που επιλέξαμε το εστιατόριο. Καλό ήταν οκ.
