We found this tavern while perusing Google maps. We didn't make a reservation and decided to just show up. Apparently, this place is highly popular so there was not a single table for us to dine. Mind you that it was me and my fiance, meaning only two people.
The owner apologised for not being able to provide service but he offered to book a table for us the next evening. He didn't take our names or contact details, rather said that he'd remember us.
The next day we showed up and he had reserved the table with the best view of the shore. You see, since the tavern is located on the mountain side on the west side of the island it is perfect for a view of the sunset. So we got a perfect view of the sunset and the twilight over the Ionian sea and the Dr Western Kefalonian shore white dining.
The food was delicious. Nothing extravagant or gourmet but authentically greek and deeply tasty. Service was also truly good and pleasant. There are a couple of nuances that make sense for Greeks (foreign tourists might not get the jokes the owners make). For example, the menus are laid out like a 90's greek TV magazine and there are numerous comical comments and footnotes. The taste in music is also spot on.
At the end of our dinner the owner bid us farewell and gave us a bottle of wine as a memento of the place. Mind you, no previous relationship with the owner whatsoever.
All in all, the best dining experience we had on the island and we did eat at a few fine dining restaurants. It is absolutely worth a visit and even a detour. Just book in advance to skip travelling there...
Read moreWe had read about this little taverna and had to come and try it whilst we were fairly nearby. Oh, and we're so glad we did. We had only had breakfast early in the morning and had had a quite energetic day, so by 4.30pm we were ready for something good. And Ladokollo delivered. We started with a selection from the appetizers menu, which may have been a mistake on our behalf as they were delicious, but also quite a portion in their own right, so we had to leave some in order enjoy the main dish. I chose from the specials of the day, my fiancee chose from the menu - both pork dishes, melt in the mouth pork. Mine had been braised on skewers, Cathy's had been braised in beer and orange and honey. Oh my! But we had been too greedy with the appetizers and couldn't finish the dishes. But not wanting to part with what was left, asked the very helpful waitress if we could take it with us. Not a problem. She put it in a take away box. Whoop! If you get a chance or you are nearby you must pay a visit. You win t be...
Read moreOn the way back from the amazing Agia Eleni beach, Ladokolla stin Plagia in the village of Damoulianata is a must-try for lunch or dinner. This family-owned tavern is run by a group of young, incredibly friendly people who make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. The owner, Spiros, went above and beyond by surprising us with a gift of their local wine as we were leaving, which truly touched us.
The highlight of this spot is the stunning view from the balcony, offering a panoramic vista of the entire island, especially breathtaking at sunset. As for the food—there are no words to describe how delicious it is. Everything is homemade, with the local Kefalonian meat pie standing out as an absolute must-try.
Due to its popularity, it's wise to book in advance, as the place is usually full. The road to Damoulianata may be a bit challenging, but it’s worth every twist and turn. For us, Ladokolla stin Plagia is hands down the best place to eat...
