A Remarkable Dining Experience at Darbari Restaurant in Athens

Darbari Restaurant in Athens exceeded all my expectations with its incredibly delicious Persian cuisine and exceptionally friendly staff. As an Iranian who traveled from Canada to Greece for the Athens Marathon, this restaurant held great value for me, not just because of the cultural connection but primarily due to the outstanding quality of its food.

After running the Athens Marathon, I needed a high-quality, nutritious meal to help my muscles and body recover. This was not just a preference—it was a necessity. I couldn’t afford to eat anything less than excellent. Fortunately, Darbari delivered exactly what I needed: an authentic, flavorful, and well-balanced Persian meal made with top-quality ingredients.

As someone who has grown up enjoying the finest Persian dishes in Iran, I have high standards when it comes to food. Darbari met and even exceeded those standards. The flavors were rich, the ingredients fresh, and the execution flawless. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to experience the true essence of Persian cuisine in Athens.

As a mixed Greek-Persian family, quite knowledgeable about Persian foods, we dined with some Iranian friends at this most authentic Persian restaurant, located in a cool and quiet neighbourhood in Athens, with ease to park.

And what a wonderful surprise we enjoyed ....

Tastes, flavours, spices and magical aromas, blend in absolutely original manners along traditional kebaps, the unbeatable basmati rice prepared and served in the typical Persian way and yummy home-cooked dishes, initiate the newbies in the so very wonderful and unique Persian culinary experiences .... while reminding to Persians their original home foods.

Food quality is awesome, the ambiance is pleasant and relaxing, while the seating is comfy.

Ample seating is also offered at a well-presented open area just outside the main restaurant hall.

Service is great, whereas the wine list offers a surprising selection of excellent wines to satisfy a diversity of preferences and prices.

Seems like we will become regulars ...

All in all ... a highly recommended option for a pleasant dining experience, definitely...

I had put a 5-star review before but I removed it and I’m replacing it with 1-star. This was our fourth visit but will be our last. The service has become incredibly slow - we had to keep reminding them of what we ordered and requesting plates and glasses, which would take a long time to come so we were just looking at our food. At the end I had to go inside to ask them for a plate myself. It took over 30 minutes to serve appetisers, not to mention the main dishes!

When we complained about this, the maître/waitress responded “this is a restaurant not a tavern”, not sure what this meant exactly or what she was insinuating.
