Eleonoras Taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Apokoronas

We have been eating in Crete all week, and have found great food all over the island. But this place really stood out to us as nothing short of fantastic. We initially tried to arrive without a booking of an evening. But it was so busy, which is always a good a sign, we decided to try another night. We are so so glad we did. We underestimated the portion size and maybe ordered too much, but the friendly and helpful staff were more than happy to give us take away containers so we can enjoy it again tomorrow! Toasted bread and fava bean spread complimentary starter was fantastic and a pleasant surprise. The green bean starter was full of flavours of the Mediterranean. We ordered the gyros variety and bbq ribs for the mains. Both portions were huge without a compromise on quality. And upon asking for the bill and requesting no Raki, we were again served complimentary ice creams and a taste of the amazing waitresses "enhanced" raki, which we loved. I can't understand the bad reviews, they seem totally undeserved. This place has stood out to us and we hope to return to try more of the menu and enjoy the amazing...

We had several good meals here two years ago but sadly standards have slipped badly since then - along with the quality of food and service. It took 3 attempts to order a drink and then we waited for 10 minutes for a menu while the staff laughed and joked with other tables. Eventually someone came to take our order... and then we waited some more. How long does it take to deliver some tzatziki? The moussaka was very poor; tasteless and smothered in gloopy bechamel but with hardly any meat. The stuffed peppers... well, two were overcooked with soggy, bland, mushy rice and the other was undercooked with hard rice. How can you manage that? When I gently mentioned all of this, all I received was a blank look and a shrug. It even took two attempts to get the bill, so lazy are the staff. There's a much, much better taverna just round the corner - go there and don't waste your evening...

It was my birthday and my parents booked a table here. The staff decorated my table with hats, table covers, party trumpets, happy birthday napkins etc and a banner! When I walked in it was a total surprise and we was welcomed and wished happy birthday.

The food….. AMAZING! We got 4 seafood spaghetti and it was incredible. Massive portions, comes very hot, and full of seafood. It was delicious.

Then I got surprised to a cake they brought out with a sparkler and candle, they turned the lights off and sang happy birthday.

All in all the whole restaurant is such a lovely, cosy, warming vibe and we would highly recommend this place to...
