Small local taverna with tables inside and outside (roadside). Usual Greek food options with emphasis on meat which is cooked on a large outside grill to order. Very popular with locals which I always think is a good sign. Ordering was a learning curve. No English spoken and you order off a paper menu (which is in English and Greek). Beware! You literally get what you order I.e. If you order a kebab, you get a kebab - nothing else (no sides/chips/salad). We learnt that the best way to order was to treat it like tapas/small dishes. Order dishes and sides separately so you get a selection. Food is delicious and atmosphere very relaxed with a mainly local clientele. I am undeserving of these incredible dolmades, tiny bits of pure paradise. This is a small taverna in a small village about 30 km from Heraklion. Be warned the grill is only started up a 19:30 (8 ish). There is no menu that I saw and they do not speak a lot of English. That being said they are heart-warming, welcoming people and when they do start up that grill the smell instantly let's you know you will be in for a treat. If cretan tavernas got Michelin stars they would definitely deserve one. Unassuming but brilliant in every way...
