Taverna Alykes — Restaurant in Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands

Before I write this review I have to say that I ate here 3 days prior to my bad experience and I had a lovely meal… however for that meal it was 11:30pm on week night and they weren’t busy. Due to this good experience we decided to return to Taverna Alykes (yesterday) Saturday and unfortunately we had a terrible experience. We arrived at 21:00 and the place was busy but not too busy, however, we were ignored and no one greeted us to seat us. We stood there for 10 minutes before I went in to find someone, the man who looked like he was running the place had walked past us 5 times and just completely ignored us. We got a nice seat in the corner but as it was in the corner we were forgotten about and it was 30 minutes before we even got a drink order. At this point it was very busy and just too much for them to handle, in my opinion. Finally someone came over to take our order and when I spoke in English he just said “NO ENGLISH” and walked away. He didn’t tell anyone else that we hadn’t ordered. So then I had to go back inside and ask if someone would take our order. We waited ages for food, at this point it was 22:30 and 2 of our dishes came but nothing else. 22:50 another 2 dishes arrived. During this time I had ordered another 2 drinks, which never came in the end. We also ordered a Greek salad, bread and French fries which never arrived. Fed up with the waiting we decided to call it quits and went to get our bill. They couldn’t find it anywhere, they were just far too overwhelmed. When they did find it- the drinks and food that we didn’t get were on the bill. I tried to explain but they couldn’t understand me. I asked the guy in charge if he could speak English to help us and he said “yes but I’m busy” and walked away. I finally found a nice young girl who was able to help and the bill was sorted. I understand that I’m the tourist and I can’t expect them to speak English but they were so rude I couldn’t believe it. It felt like they had no time for me. To make matters worse, the girls at the table beside us ordered after us and got all their food before us but yet received a free glass of wine as an apology for the delay… nothing for us, forgotten again. Arrived at this restaurant. Straight away felt unwelcome and uncomfortable. No real choice for vegetarians, what I did chose they didn't have. The chips were awful. The Greek salad tasted odd as it had some kind of greasy oil on it. The feta didn't taste like feta and it was swimming in the same greasy oil. I couldn't eat any of it. My chips and salad came way before the others food. No one asked if anything was ok. Their food was poor quality also. Presentation is non existent. Service is diabolical. Expensive for the poor quality. The worst food and place we have ever eaten at. Not even a thank you when paid the bill. Scruffy building and toilet. Never again. If you are looking for a nice taverna serving decent food with pleasant service you won't...

Waiters were shouting at each other because even they felt they are doing a poor job. The waiter didn't wait until both of us ordered food because he had to leave but didn't return, I had to ask to order and he seemed upset that I wasted his time. They mixed up our orders (which they fixed appropriately after). After finishing the meals we were sitting there 30 mins to have our plates taken (did not happen), we even wanted desserts but instead asked the check (which they miscalculated). The food was average, the view and the wine was nice. We foolishly gave this place a second chance, but we were so wrong......
