Wow, wow, and another wow. That is all about the meat. I'll start with the less impressive - the service. Was very slow and not "accurate", for example served me small draft beer while I ordered large one (but were so kind to make the small one on the house and to serve another large one), forgot to serve water that I ordered, or gave some unknown juice for the kid who ordered fanta. So it started a bit on the down side (not to mention the missing tomahawk that was gone between the time the waiter announced the special dishes and the time we ordered) , but then came the food. We started with Lola's salad and tzaziki, which were good, and a big portion of lamb (anti christo I believe, right from the flames) and it was, how can I say it... Poetry. So tender and delicious. I am in Chania area now for 10 days, eating daily in restaurants (sometimes twice a day), on the beach, in the city old town, on the mountains, all over, and I can guarantee you - this is the best meat I had in this...

A perfect place for lunch but BEWARE, make sure you book beforehand. We did our reservation on Google and we're there earlier than most, so had a choice of where to sit, inside the Taverna or in the brighter outdoor area. As folk started to spill in for Sunday lunch for the reserved tables, others were turned away having not know of their popularity.

All dishes were of a good size, so do not over order or you will definately be asking for a box to take away the rest, (too tasty to leave behind). Good prices, not sure about wine quality as we opted for soft drinks, due to driving home soon after. Attentive service when requesting additional dishes or drinks. We were told after our experience, although we had not ordered ourselves, you do not go to Mastrapas and NOT order their chips with Staka. Next time we go, we will.

Overall a...

STUNT FOOD!! We ordered a stake. The meat was very hard, completely unseasoned and tasteless. Seriously how unprofesional does a cook have to be to completely forget to season a stake? Also they didn't tenderize the meat and we couldn't swallow it at all.

Not only that, but the meat was served in a very old wooden cutting board that looked and smelled completely unsanitary. I got a belly ache from eating from it...

The whole order for two people was 120€ for a salad a main dish, an apetizer and the stake. The stake itself was 60€ alone!

Serive was also very bad. The staff also forgot to bring us water and glasses, we had to ask for bread as they also forgot, and service was abysmally late. Borderline scam.

Very unsatisfied. I'm never going...

Mastrapas Restaurant in Chania is hands down the best grilled meat restaurant in town! The charming ambiance, adorned with flowers and shaded by trees, creates a perfect setting for a delightful meal. The friendly staff welcomed us warmly, making us feel right at home. The food was incredible, with highlights including the delectable fried cheese and perfectly grilled chicken and lamb cooked on wood. Each bite was a testament to their culinary expertise. To top it all off, they served complimentary dessert and fruits, adding a sweet finish to an already fantastic meal. With its inviting atmosphere, exceptional service, and mouth-watering food, Mastrapas is a must-visit for anyone in Chania.

We had such a great time at Mastrapas in Chania! The antikristo lamb was absolutely delicious – tender, flavorful, and probably the best we’ve had in Crete. You can really taste the tradition in the way it’s prepared. The staff were so friendly and polite, always making sure we felt welcome without ever rushing us. It gave the whole evening a really relaxed, family-like atmosphere. And just when we thought we couldn’t eat another bite, they brought us a refreshing slice of watermelon for dessert – the perfect way to end the meal. If you’re in Chania and want authentic food with genuine hospitality, Mastrapas is a must.

This was our first time in Mastrapas, but it will not be our last! We loved everything we ate; excellent salad made from seasonal greens with Misithra cheese, lokal potatoes, and the Graviera Saganaki with Apple chutney. Thereafter lamb Anti Kristo and pork Anti Kristo.(Anti Kristo means cooked beside the fire in the oven). The servings were HUGE, so remember that it is possible to share..... The porkmeat was good, but the lamb was exquisite! (I would always go back for the Saganaki!!)
