Gem to Discover in Kokala.

Based on a casual drive past, I must admit we would never have stopped. This taverna, in the middle of Kokala, looks oh so intimidating and ever so slightly scary (for a foreigner at least).

But then we would have missed out on a real gem. Good honest Greek cooking, with local ingredients and portions / prices straight out of the 80’s.

Two of us had a Choroatiki Salad, local Siglino pork, fresh Kalamari, Goat and potatoes, tzatziki and a litre of house wine for 34 Euros. The lady of the taverna could not be more welcoming.

Cheap and cheerful! Good value for money and a nice view. The owner and the staff weren’t very friendly and the food came at random times. The second main about 10 mins after the first. My boyfriend enjoyed his chicken souvlaki but my fried fish was tasteless (had the same dish in other tavernas at Mani and it was amazing). There’s very little choice for pescatarians but all the great meat classics...

The outside of the restaurant doesnt attract you, but it was the restaurant with the most people, out of the 2 in Kokkala. Tried many dishes, most of them are oven baked, like mousaka,stuffed veggies etc.You can ask for the freshly cooked dishes of the day. Decent portions,fresh ingredients at decent prices.
