We had dinner at Taverna Takis while staying at Gythio Bay Camping. The place is truly welcoming, the staff kind, and the owner extremely friendly and pleasant to talk to. It’s a family-run business that has been around since the 70s, and has been managed by the current owner – son of the founders – since the 90s.

The food is absolutely delicious, just like home cooking. Meat, fish, vegetable side dishes and all the classic Greek recipes – everything we ordered was simply excellent.

What to expect: Good food and really slow service.

First impression was good. We got a table fast and the ordered drinks were also brought fast.

We then got a menu for the starters - this also arrived fast.

And that was it with the service. Table wasn't cleared of old dishes Ordered extra bread didn't come No one came for extra drinks No one came for ordering the main dishes.

After a while (like 20 minutes), when we tried to get the attention of the owner or the one waiter) we went in the kitchen and were finally able to order the food.

This is a tavern which offers the best fresh home cooked food you will find near Gythio. After Taki welcomes you and shows you to your table, you can first select some tasteful starters. After these are finished you are invited into the kitchen to pick your main from the available fresh food of the day, like lamb or beef stews, fish or moussaka. We chose the beef stew and it was simply delicious. You can just taste the love and attention given to it during preparation.
