Vafis aposperida — Restaurant in Municipality of Festos

We decided to try this place because it always looked full of people and had a high rating online, but after our visit we honestly cannot understand why. The food was a huge disappointment from start to finish. We ordered octopus, expecting it to be grilled or at least warm, but it was served completely cold. The moussaka was passable, but also cold. The barley seafood dish was another letdown: extremely salty, unbalanced in flavor, and overall nothing special at all. The mussels were perhaps the biggest disappointment. They were served later than all the other dishes, as if they had been forgotten in the kitchen, and when they arrived, the portion was laughable, only 12 mussels on the plate. For an appetizer, we had snails, which were absolutely inedible; the texture and flavor were so poor that we couldn’t eat them at all. We’ve tried the same dishes in other nearby restaurants and had a much better experience, so it’s not just about personal taste — the quality here is simply not up to standard.

The only positives were the friendly staff, a decent glass of wine, and the cute cats wandering around, which at least created a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, when it comes to the food, which is the main reason people come to a restaurant, this place completely failed. If you want to actually enjoy a meal, we really cannot recommend...

From the moment we walked in, everything about this taverna was absolutely perfect. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, capturing the true essence of Greek hospitality.

The food was nothing short of exceptional – every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The grilled meats were juicy and tender, the traditional dishes like moussaka and stuffed vine leaves were rich and comforting, and the local wine complemented everything perfectly. Locals suggested this taverna within the town when we asked. Stelios welcomed us warmly and told us that this tavern has been in build and managed by his family since 1911!!! We sat outside though but good to know they are open all year. They had wonderful suggestions on what to order and when we couldn’t decide between dishes they suggested they do half and half dishes for us.
