I wanted to try something a bit outside of this tourist-y duo of Dimistana and Stemnitsa and the reviews seemed to indicate a yummy authentic meal, but my mistake.
Cleanliness can definitely be improved, the chairs and tables were shaky on the ground, place was filled with flies that bite (okay, last point is not their fault, but worth to note as it does contribute to the experience). Bathroom can be fixed up a bit.
Yes, I understand that the woman working there does not speak English, but some things are just common sense (and if you do work with tourists and apparently need their money, put in the effort to at least learn the very basics, like "no" or "bread"?).
Solo, paid 25EUR for way too much food, most of what I left untouched, of less-than-mediocre value. Lamb meat was hairy and chewy, the rest was boring or drenched in oil. The complimentary cherries at the end of the meal would have been a nice touch if they were cleaned just a bit beforehand.
Also, this couple needs to realise that even if customers don't understand Greek, they can hear you yelling at each other five steps down in the kitchen. Not exactly food made with love.
Boh. Sometimes, I wonder why people have the jobs they do if it doesn't exactly seem like something they want to...
Read moreWe came here twice in a row after our hikes in the mountain. Zigovistino Steki is a wonderful example of a traditional Greek Taverna, situated in the square of one of the most serene and picturesque villages in the area. The location is beautiful, with the centuries-old plane tree casting its cool shadow even on the hottest day. The service is excellent, Maria the owner is very polite, very attentive, and we loved that she asked questions about the condition of the trails, looking to update other hikers who stop by her place in the future. The food arrived promptly. Everything we tasted was simple but fantastic, and cooked up to a really high standard (we are Greek). I can say that Zigovistino Steki is a must if you are travelling around this part of the world and certainly one of the best restaurants in the wider...
Read moreIf it was possible I should give a ZERO! We ordered lamb’s steaks, from the grill. What we got, were ribs, without the steaks - they were cut off before preparing, fried. Besides, the ribs were to big, to be of a lamb. The missing steaks were from almost a sheep, comparing to the size of the bones. The little bit meat on the bones, we barely could find, was also very tough! When we complained, the host, Maria, explained, “the steaks are from a baby lamb”. We showed her, where we could see, that the meat was cut from the bones before the ribs were fried; she repeated: “the steaks are from a baby lamb”! We also ordered pancheta meat. This dish was served with half fried potatoes, we couldn’t eat. The salad and a portion fried potatoes were not so bad. DON’T VISIT...
