We stoped by at Agio Deka on our way to Ierapetra. What a jewel we found! The setting is beautiful, ambience 100%. The Square in front with a lovely ancient church and tons of history. The restaurant style blends perfectly and feels like a secluded open space adjacent to the square.
When we arrived, nobody was there. We were received by Marina who was close and charming and recommended us the daily specials. Presentation was A1. Ingredients were fresh and execution of the dishes was flawless. We met the cooks at the kitchen and thanked them for the amazing food. We had fried pumpkin with rosemary vinegar and Greek souzoukakia (the best ones in a 3 week long trip through Greece) and local wine. We were so happy and full, about to pay and leave but Marina insisted we had dessert: Galaktoboureko. It was fresh out of the oven. Dear Jesus. We've been looking for another galakotboureko as good as that one but haven't found it yet.
It is funny how prior to our trip we received many recommendations around Crete but we bumped into the best place of all the island serendipitously.
Thank you!

Read moreThe top-notch restaurant with excellent food, friendly and attentive service, and great vibes! (plus a dog and cats :). I love how they cooked with love and sophistication.
My partner and I were so pleases with every dish we ordered. I was in love with the eggplant with feta cheese and tomato sauce. The lamb with potatoes made my soul happy. The best lamb dish I have had in Crete so far. The salad was big but felt light with pomegranates, cheese, and almonds (I think). The galaktoboureko was to die for.
We planned come back the next day. But things got in the way so we couldnt make it. The next time we are in Crete, definitely we will definitely come back.
So worth the visit! Thanks so much for providing us with excellent food and...
Read moreVisited Aloni during a day-trip to the enchanting village of Agios Deka. Can't say enough about the great experience. Food taste and presentation were great. Setting was relaxing and welcoming. Service was prompt, and courteous. Took pictures of the first two dishes that arrived, and then forgot to take anymore out of enjoying everything we ordered. Honestly, there's no way to go wrong here. As shown in the posted pictures, we started with the eggplant and Alonis Salad dish, perfectly paired with the Titakis wine the server suggested. YUM!!! Not pictured (because I was lost in the epicurean feast experience) are the fried zucchini, stuffed veggies, steak, and an unforgettable desert of cheese pies. Did...
