Cafe Gialos — Restaurant in Municipality of Gortys

Lovely laid back lunch. Very friendly and amenable host. We went there 3 times in one day. Freshly squeezed orange juice before a swim. Lunch was some excellent meatballs, sardines and salad. We then walked to Agios Antonio's church (inside of a cave!). On return had a couple of beers whilst waiting for the 4x4 to come from the Thalori Retreat thoroughly recommend this cafe if you are in the area. We saw a person with knee pads on who appeared to be collecting something from the rocks at the far end of the beach.The owner said it was her brother collecting sea salt. I didn't realise that salt could taste this good 👍. We can thoroughly recommend this...

My wife and I were in Agios Ioannis this summer and we were lucky enough to get to know the café restaurant Café Gialos: it is a charming little place, managed with exquisite courtesy and hospitality by Aspasia and her family, the food is very fresh and genuine, as if it were cooked by grandmothers of the past, typically Greek and at very honest prices, furthermore the view is beautiful because you eat on a terrace directly overlooking the blue Libyan Sea... in short, a little corner of paradise. Magical place with terrace overlooking beach with chrystal clear waters. Lots of shade from sun and (sometimes) strong wind. Proper food, traditional music, local paintings on the walls. Nice (self) service. Highly recommended. Keep in mind the road to reach this is unpacked, very steep with dangerous twists an turns and rocks on the road.
