The Taverna Poseidon is the central meeting place in Lentas, where locals and travelers meet from morning coffee to dinner, where news is exchanged and highlights of the local gastronomy are served. The fact that the Poseidon was practically the only open taverna on site during and immediately after the Greek lockdown in May 2021 was our good fortune, because otherwise we would not have had the opportunity to eat our way through the excellent culinary offerings for 2 weeks and be pampered by the team of the young host Georgios with much warmth, generosity and commitment! We appreciated the personal interaction with the whole team, with Georgios, Ute and the cook (whose name I unfortunately could not remember, but who cooks like God in France) very much and in best memory. The solid, honest cuisine impresses with excellent local, fresh, seasonal ingredients, which are processed with great attention to detail. The menu features Greek classics as well as Cretan specialties, depending on what's on offer. Our favorite dishes were the spicy bifteki, the creamy fava and the best dolmades in the region. You should also try the fish dishes and stews, such as the spaghetti with lobster or the wild rabbit in onion-white wine sauce from our own hunt, or, for those who like to try delicacies, snails in white wine vinegar, olive oil and rosemary. Also in the morning you can get a good coffee or a frapé and Cretan breakfast. I will definitely return...

Read moreSeeing a lot of positive opinions we decided to visit the Poseidon Taverna. First impression (look, location) was really nice. Unfortunately good aspects end here. When we started to order it appeared that 1/4 of our choices was already sold (we were ther at 7 pm). When we finaly managed to pick up something what was available we was waiting more than 40 minutes. When it comes to the food the taste (calamaries and octopus) was very average. French fries were terible. And at the end it appeared that the waiter took a wrong note of the order and counted it (the octopus) as the main course instead of the starter. Finaly we ended up very dissapointed, waiting a long time to eat something that was very average and paying...
