Hippie Beach Eatery Bar — Restaurant in Municipality of Kalamata

We came with my husband to have a little snack before our swim, been told that they don’t have menu in English (that happens, totally fine), but then when we asked to help us to translate ingredients for ONE burger the waiter was SO pissed and asked us “what don’t you understand here?”. My husband has ton of non common allergies, and we have to ask every stupid detail, which believe me annoys us and places we go, but better safe than sorry.

We’ve received the food - ordered club sandwich and burger. Club sandwich 6/10 - for what it was, that was okay. Burger - 2/10, the burger and fries were both cold when we’ve received them, and cherry on top was the attitude that came with it. My husband is deadly allergic to chicken and A LOT of restaurants use poultry bacon. And in the burger that we’ve ordered was bacon, that reminded me (non allergic person) of a poultry product. I’ve politely went and asked again if that was poultry, because if it was he couldn’t eat it. The first waiter I’ve talked to was fine, he said that he will ask his colleague. We’ve waited couple of minutes and than another waiter came by with absolutely rude and close to yelling voice asking “WHATS THE PROBLEM?!”. I’ve explained to him again, he in again extremely RUDE way said that it’s not chicken or anything like that. We’ve finished our food, paid and ran from there.

And the whole time the music WAS BLASTING. I understand it’s a beach bar, but guys 2009 hits blasting in my ear that I cannot hear my own thoughts doesn’t really give beach bar vibes.

Visited Kalamata for a day well spent with friends at Hippie beach bar, a beautiful cozy place that made us feel welcome from the very first moment. It is located at Mikri Mantineia seaside village, about 10-15’ from Kalamata center with own parking space available. Although it was a windy day and we saw waves as we passed from Kalamata beach, when we arrived at Hippie the beach water was very calm and crystal clear – not sure if it has to do with the location or something. The setup is amphitheatrical offering unrestricted sea view and each level is equipped with wooden comfy deck chairs and sun loungers - we literally couldn’t resist to take a nap as they felt so good, and the music was only relaxing! We appreciated the clean changing and shower rooms as well as these small, rounded pebbles that were everywhere and saved us from the sand mess. This place kept us all day long and we tried many drinks and food from the menu. We tried the chicken club sandwich which was rich and delicious with homemade French fries. We also tried the mixed grill for 4 persons which had a great variety of meat (including beef meat which is not quite common in mixed grills for cost saving!), homemade cheese croquettes with local cheese varieties, homemade French fries and various dipping sauces. Επισκεπτόμαστε το μαγαζί σταθερά εδώ και χρόνια (από την εποχή που λειτουργούσε με άλλη ονομασία) όπου συνήθως καθόμαστε πάνω από μισή μέρα μέρα, ξεκινώντας από καφέ και συνεχίζουμε με φαγητό, ποτά κλπ. Έτσι κάναμε και στις 23/08 όπου πήγαμε πρωί πρωί και καθήσαμε αρχικά στις ξαπλώστρες στην παραλία και παραγγείλαμε καφέδες. Μετά από λίγο και ενώ βγάλαμε 2 λουκουμάδες να φάνε τα παιδιά και μια τυρόπιτα για εμένα, ήρθε ο υπεύθυνος και με ευγενικό ύφος μας ζήτησε να τα βάλουμε μέσα γιατί όπως δήλωσε, αφενός απαγορεύεται από την πολιτική του καταστήματος και αφετέρου μπορεί να του επιβληθεί πρόστιμο σε ενδεχόμενο έλεγχο αν το επιτρέψει. Προφανώς δεν άφησα τα παιδιά νηστικά, τους έβαλα να πάνε να φάνε το ζαχαρωτό τους 10 μέτρα πιο πέρα από το μαγαζί, αλλά δεν κρύβω ότι ενοχλήθηκα. Φτάνοντας λοιπόν στο μεσημέρι καθήσαμε σε τραπέζι πλέον για να φάμε, όπου παραγγείλαμε μια πίτσα και μια ποικιλία 2-3 ατόμων. Η πίτσα ήταν συμπαθητική αλλά η ποικιλία επιεικώς απαράδεκτη. Πάρα πολλές πατάτες (προτηγανισμένες), ένα κεφτεδάκι αντί μπιφτεκιών, γραβιέρα ξεραμένη από τις 2 πλευρές, λουκάνικο και χοιρινή πανσέτα που δυστυχώς δεν τρώγονταν. Τόσο στη παραλία όσο και στο τραπέζι εξυπηρετηθήκαμε από τη μοναδική σερβιτόρα του καταστήματος η οποία σημειωτέον ήταν ευγενέστατη, αλλά όπως ήταν λογικό αδυνατούσε να εξυπηρετήσει τους πάντες. Να σημειώσω πως οι ξαπλώστρες ήταν σε άσχημη κατάσταση (σκισμένες με τα αφρολέξ να προεξέχουν), υπήρχαν αρκετά σκουπιδάκια τριγύρω, τασάκι δε μου έφεραν ποτέ οπότε περιορίστηκα σε ένα αυτοσχέδιο και τέλος στο χώρο των αποδυτηρίων υπήρχε έντονη δυσοσμία την οποία δεν ήμουν ο μόνος που παρατήρησα. Αυτά για να μεταφέρω τη συνολική μου εμπειρία. Καταλήγω λοιπόν ότι με βάση το επίπεδο των υπηρεσιών του καταστήματος δεν έπρεπε να ενοχληθούν από τους λουκουμάδες του Σουρέα. Αν το επίπεδο των υπηρεσιών ήταν εφάμιλλο της αυστηρής του πολιτικης δε θα έμπαινα στον κόπο να γράφω εκθέσεις. Τέλος, δε νομίζω να το επισκεφτώ ξανά γιατί προφανώς δεν απευθύνεται σε πελάτες σαν...
