We went there for dinner (3 adults, 2 children) in July and the owners couldn't be more welcoming. Nice people, lovely scenery, and, best of all, incredibly tasty food. Everything was exceptional: best of all the beetroot salad (mousse-like, with yoghurt on top) and the lamb (moist, flavourful...with really good fries!). We also had tiropita (great and quite big with flaky tasty dough a bit thicker than regular filo), kontosouvli (very nice), xorta (love these bitter veggies), tzatziki (strong but good), biftekis (tasty as well, big portion!), and Marios sallad (with pomegranate). All portions were big and we obviously ordered too much but still managed to finish it all as it was so tasty. They also have a good wine selection and recommendations. There are a couple of dogs around, one of which (Rudy) couldn't be more sweet. The place is on the side of a road, has parking space and a bit of grass on the side (our kids were playing for some time there in the end). We were sitting outside but there's also space inside if you go in winter. The swallows have made nests on the ceiling of the veranda so you can see them coming and going. We live in Sweden but have relatives in Greece so we have high standards for Greek food and this was a...
Read moreWe had our lunch on a very busy day however I have to mentioned some things that disturb us. The surrounding is very nice and totally ideally for the kind of place. We order one of the days special Kotsi Xoirino which was soft but cold and with a sense of prepared the previous day and escorted by some very bad fried potato chips. One pumpkin soup which was served to us also cold but the taste was not bad and one Katsikaki Riganato which was very good but the fries on the side was also cold and one very good and well presented beetroot salad and one pasta with garlic plate which was good although a little more oily than expected. The bread basket never arrived to us although we asked it after the first dishes arrived and the napkins arrived after we ask for. Finally we have been served a very tasteful wine after suggestion of the server. The total experience was average but certainly there is room for improvement. We will try one more time hoping for better experience because although it is not an excuse it was a very busy hour resulting to not have the...
Read moreLast week when we did the rail trip from Diakopto to Kalyvrita, we grabbed a taxi and asked to go to To Spiti tis Marios. I had read a few great reviews, but was unprepared for what followed. We arrived at a lovely outdoor space, with no other customers in sight. We had hoped for a genuine local experience, but what followed was sensational! We asked the host/owner/chef, George, to recommend dishes from the menu so we could try as many local products as possible. Obviously passionate about his relationship with food, he served us dishes and wines of a quality I have rarely experienced anywhere! Do not miss the opportunity to savour a truly astonishing culinary event. It will change the way you perceive fine dining....beautiful food made with love and local ingredients in a hidden corner...
