During my annual summer vacation in Crete, I always make a point to visit a family-owned tavern in the village of Temenia. This delightful establishment, run by the warm and welcoming Adela and Sifis, has become a beloved tradition in my travel itinerary. Must try! We loved it, and everyone should treat themselves to try this amazing food. This is truly an example of how using fresh local produce, lovely free range animals to just make seemingly simple dishes taste absolutely perfect. The depth of flavor in every simple item was astounding. Surely the best meal we had in Crete. Especially loved the chestnutt and "sweet greens" salad. Also have to mention the service is so kind and welcoming, we even got some ekstra bread to take home for our breakfast. It feels like coming into a lovely home and getting just all the warmth of family life but also the favorite traditional dishes. Wish we could have food like this at home, but thankful just for what a great vacation memory this evening was....

We had a great time here. The owner was so kind to let us in before the official opening time, it was raining quite a lot and we've been starving so her hospitality was very welcome! I ordered the chestnut dish, it was the second time I had this dish and this one was definitely better! My spouse had the pork and he was content with it. We also enjoyed the complimentary chestnut dessert and the dessert wine. Make sure you have cash on you, we did not and the POS machine was not working.
