The café is located on the road to the famous Elafonisi Beach. I was very hungry, and unfortunately, the exterior made me believe that this place would offer delicious and high-quality food. However, things turned out quite differently.
The waitress was very friendly and smiling. It seemed like she understood English, but in the end, there was a misunderstanding.
We sat down, but we weren’t given a menu – they simply recited it from memory. (Alright, I thought, it’s only March 16, still off-season.) We somehow managed to figure out what to order. The waitress used Greek names and occasionally showed pictures. For example, the beans in the picture looked appetizing in sauce, but what we actually got was just huge red beans in a watery broth.
They brought us a whole basket of fresh bread and croutons without asking.
I ordered fish, and the waitress confirmed: “Yes, yes, we have fish.” However, there was no fish in any of the dishes – instead, there were some kind of organ meats (maybe stomachs or ears?).
I ordered a glass of wine – but without asking, they brought me a half-liter carafe. I assumed they might charge based on how much I drank. But no, they charged for the full half-liter, even though I only had 200 ml.
My husband ordered pork – the only option available. Unfortunately, all the dishes were covered with a huge amount of local greens with a rather unpleasant taste, which we were not warned about. The pork itself looked like it had been cooked a long time ago and simply reheated – dark, dried out, and unappetizing.
When we asked for the bill, they sent a little boy to bring it – maybe hoping that we would feel too guilty to complain.
The bill was €59.
This left us surprised, dissatisfied, and disappointed. Off-season, at these prices – such quality! A very unpleasant experience.
This is the closest café to our house, but now we prefer to drive further to get proper service and not feel like...
Read moreWe visited on a Wednesday evening, almost no other customers, which is probably the best time to visit.
The staff was very friendly, liked to joke around and brought us the order quickly and in good pacing.
The food was very tasty and prepared how it is supposed to be. We ordered serrated lamb, grilled chopped lamb, vegan gemista, usual fries and bread. Definitely recommend getting the bread option, it's a very good appetizer for what's to come. Both lamb dishes were excellent but the grilled version tasted better. The tasty gemista was served with delicious wine grape leaf rolls. The fries should have been prepared a minute longer and the wine was maybe a bit stronger than usual but that's just my taste, both still were good.
After we finished we even got some pudding and a sizable serving of honey melon pieces for free.
The atmosphere was relaxing, a good choice in decorations...
Read moreI guess we visited this taverna at the wrong time. Few tables still available so desided to stay. Menu's came with bottle of water very soon but then it took long time for waiter to come and get the orders. Moussaka 3 to 4 minutes was actually 20 minutes. Chicken souflaki 10 minutes turned to half an hour.. requested a check with no response for a long time so had to go and find this waiter from kitchen and she called manager from outside table close seen from our table, to cash us so we could leave. Nice place with good location and could be definately better by fixing some issues they have with restaurant personnell, starting with management that was well awared of the problem we were having but not taking care of it. Well, this is opinion you receive...
