Just leaving this taverna which was in a fairytale setting on the edge of a mountain overlooking forest and a few remote dwellings. The air was cool and fresh and the sky dark with no light pollution. You could hear a song bird nearby and beautiful singing and traditional instruments coming from a neighbouring building where a group appeared to be practising. If anyone knows if the group have a YouTube or other site please respond. Anyway we would equally recommend this taverna for the food and service. We would recommend the fried vegetables which were perfectly cooked and yet not too oily, and mixed grill which included a very succulent lamb chop, local sausage which appeared homemade and apparently tasted quite different, a burger, chicken souvlaki and potatoes. Great food and chilled atmosphere. Finish your evening with a visit to the attached supermarket which sells local produce and the artisan shop opposite the car park where you can buy local made alcohol, herbs, preserves and even...
Read moreFood and portions were decent however it felt like a total rip off. Ladies were very nice but, at the time of taking the order no menu was given. We were 2 and ordered one portion of dakos, one Cretan salad, one stifado, one zucchini balls, small wine and water (raki and sliced banana was brought at the table after the meal) for a total of 41€. Prices were shown only at the counter at the time of paying. Comparing the pictures of the menu you can see here from 10 months ago, they charged us dakos 7€ ( 4.5€), salad 9€ (6.5€), stifado 10€ (8€), zucchini balls 8€, wine 4€, water 2€ (1.5€), 1€ no idea (service/raki?). View was good but you can experience the same from the parking few steps away. Overall I am afraid to say, it's a...
Read moreCrete is not only about "all inclusive" spaces at the seashore. To know this isle better, it's good to go behind this line, deeper into interior. Come to the small village of Kefali and enjoy Panorama Cafe - Taverna: tasty food, great view into a mountain valley and Greek hospitality! Afterwards you can do some shopping in the grocery store located by the restaurant. By chance, you may peek into the kitchen and you know what's cooking for dinner! The whole is led by great Greek family. Family senior may pass by your table during the dinner time, pour raki into your glasses, pour also a bit to himself and make a toast with you (Yamas!). The best way to get there is by car. Be careful, you are in mountains! Go...
