Don't get me wrong, some of the food were really good. It is a great place for a large party and I loved the outdoor seating amidst the trees with a view of the acreage-like garden. The service was slow, one server for the entire place of large tables, long wait for our orders to be taken, and a long wait for the dishes, but once they started coming out they came along quickly. The dishes were done well but not as good as the other places we went to on the island. The slow roasted pork and greek potatoes were good but not great, I would have preferred the rosemary cooked in the pot, not added fresh as it imparted no flavour. The stewed okras were almost perfect, just a bit too tangy. The tomatoey beef and fried potatoes were delicious, just perfect. Beets fresh and earthy, very simple. The boiled greens were simply boiled, which was fine. The bread and feta were delicious! The trahana was ok but the roasted eggplants in the dish was awesome -Trahana is an ancient food made with either semolina, wheat flour, bulgur or cracked wheat. Milk, buttermilk, or yogurt are mixed into the flour or wheat to form a thick mass.Once the ingredients have been combined, they are broken into chunks, dried, and then broken up into granules. Overall, a bit expensive for the norm in Greece during the off season. The menu was hit and miss, the service underwhelming. I would give this place another try next...
Read moreThe beach of Skandeia is beautiful. You will live it at its best at dawn since you will see the sun rise “from inside the sea”. In the afternoon you get natural shade from its big santy rocks (which inside hide ageless sea shells, which in turn can be lots of fun for kids). In order to get to that part of the beach turn into the little dust route on your right as soon as you find the Skandeia taverna on your left. Which by the way has good food at normal prices if you wish to have lunch in between swimming sessions. If you want you can swim/walk to the right end of the beach and swim through a gorgeous cavy rock to find another beach “Limni». The latter has always been a nudist beach mainly. If you re looking for an all-santy beach go to Melidoni or Diakofti. In Skandeia beach you will find tiny red santy rocks and also huge rocks of...
Read morePrices ridiculously expensive, for example fried potatoes 8 euros. Feta was 5.5euros and it was hardly 100grams. Greens (χόρτα) portion was very small. This is called αισχροκερδια. Gemista were full of oil, same for melintzanes with trachanas. Service was extremely bad. We got our drinks after they brought food. They took order 30min after we got there, we ordered μαγειρευτά (e.g no preparation time needed) and they brought them after another 30min. I am visiting kythira since I was a kid, 40years ago. Skandia used to be a good place. I am really concerned with this is unbelievable deterioration in quality. The locals seems they do not care, whatever brings money now. So short sighted behaviour. I hope people will...
