If you're white-skinned, I totally recommend going to this restaurant. Unfortunately, if you don't have white skin, don't even think about trying this restaurant. I walked into this restaurant that didn't have a "whites only" sign up and had an experience I don't want to remember for the rest of my life.
I am from Korea and visited this restaurant on July 15th with a friend after seeing the Temple of Poseidon. When we entered the restaurant, the staff pretended not to see us. We waited for about three minutes for the staff to show us to a table, but nothing happened. We asked if we could eat here and they pointed to a table and told us to sit there.
After we sat down, we waited for them to bring us a menu. But time passed and they still didn't bring the menu. We asked the employees who were looking at us blankly to bring us menus, but they told us to wait, that another employee would bring them to us. After about three times asking for the menu, they brought it to us. We were excited to choose our menu by then. When we finished selecting our menu, we tried to eye-contact the waiter to take our order. They refused to take our food order, saying that we were busy, or that the staff behind would take our order. Again, I tried to think positively, assuming it was because they were busy.
As we were waiting for a server to take our order, a young white couple walked into the restaurant, and the waiters who hadn't taken our order quickly escorted them to a table and brought them a menu. It was then that I could clearly see that I was being racially discriminated. The waiters even ignored our calls and took their food orders first.
My friend said that we just wait and eat, but I didn't want to eat at a racist restaurant. A few minutes after the white couple's dinner order was taken, the waiters came to take our order. I told them we weren't going to eat here and left the restaurant. On the way out, I double-checked to make sure I hadn't missed a sign that said "Whites Only". But there was no such sign anywhere.
There were a lot of white people in the restaurant eating together. They're not guilty of anything. I'm sure many of them recognize that what happened to me was wrong. (Interestingly, all of them were white, except for us.) But if you visit the restaurant after reading my review,,, I'm not so sure. Use your own judgment.
I ended the day with a disgusting experience and am writing this review during my trip to Santorini in hopes that other victims like me will not be victimized.
My friend and I were worried that we would be subjected to racism again throughout our trip. However, unlike our worry, we were treated with kindness in all the restaurants in Greece except this one. If it weren't for their hospitality, I would have returned home with a bad image of Greece.
I can't believe that restaurants like this still exist. I hope the employees of that restaurant realize their stupidity and at least don't raise their children...
Read moreThis is overall a really good choice for seafood in the greater Cape Sounio area. The service is on point, expeditious, very polite, have great command of English (so you know exactly what you’re eating) and very attentive. We were a large group, and all the food came in a really timely manner. The food itself was overall very very good and you will find a good selection of alcoholic beverages to wash it down with :) . I very much enjoyed the small fish dishes, but as a raw fish lover did not find the sea bream ceviche to my taste (it was scented with basil leaves which, to me, tasted more like pesto - it was a good ceviche though and I think others might like enjoy it). The fried seafood was done to perfection, although the larger fish grilling had room for improvement (there were traces of pink on the flesh close to the head of the sturgeon). The frozen seafood is clearly marked on the menu (which is not always the case in tavernas - so, shout-out for that to Syrtaki), but do inquire for fresh fish options as the staff will guide you through the available options. Also, keep in mind that the portions are quite big, so moderate your order accordingly! I should also note that the staff were super kind in packaging our leftovers (because, yes, we did over order) to take away. So, overall I do recommend this place if you are...
Read moreOkay place but for Greek people, honestly if your a tourist I don’t recommend coming here, portions are big depending on what you get, we order more food than shown on pictures but I forgot to take photos of them, place has a great view but the general atmosphere ain’t the best, the servers are quite weird and pretty much forget about you unless you remind them a couple of times of your existence, food came out quickly, a bit more expensive than your usual tavern but it’s understandable since it bases off of fresh sea food and the place itself is to die for, wouldn’t probably come here again but it was an okay experience Edit: the staff is much worse than I thought, were polish (and Greek) and since we spoke polish their ignore us for like, half an hour now for paying, and we’re cold and we have reminded them 3 times about paying and they left us hanging for...
