Thyme Restaurant | Bar — Restaurant in Municipality of Nafplio

We were staying up the road at the Kanathos Pigi hotel (also recommended) and decided to come here on a weekday evening about 8pm for dinner.

The summary: Simply put everything was lovely. Food- excellent, service attentive, atmosphere modern but very comfortable and relaxed.

Music: a pleasant and relaxed background effect, not overpowering, even though we sat near to the speakers. This restaurant is friendly to conversation.

First Impressions: On arrival I thought it would be quite contemporary, and in some ways it is, but refreshingly self-aware and obviously a bit of a local hotspot also, not pretentious in the least and very welcoming.

Food: excellent across the board - well plated with ample portion sizes. A starter, main and one side will be a sizeable banquet for most diners- and they offered to doggy bag leftovers. I had a lamb rib rack which was cooked to perfection while my partner had duck which was also lovely. Both were plated with vegetables. British and French diners may appreciate the effort put into the gravy which was slightly sweet and deliciously meaty, and made from scratch on the premises. Hats off to the chef, it was both delicious and very filling.

Service: always near and ready to assist with recommendations. My partner had a glass of white and a chocolate espresso martini which were both excellent, while I stuck to the Alfa beer (other beers are available)

Atmosphere: relaxed! Diners came and went and did not seem rushed, and nor did we. The interior decor is modern and clean, but the service and food are traditional so you get the best of both worlds.

Overall: could not fault it! I feel very glad this restaurant was only 8 minutes walk from our hotel. We'll definitely be back, and if you have the pleasure of staying in Aria or fancy a stroll over from Nafplion, I would say this place...

My husband and I had a fantastic meal last evening. The food was 5 star quality. We started out with mojitos which were amazing. The mint was fresh and the drink not too sweet - just right. We split the Thyme Salad which was easily large enough for two people. For the main meal, my husband had the steak and I had the pork, which were equally delicious. When it was time for dessert, and we were thinking about the orange chocolate fondant on the menu, the owner's son mentioned his mother other had made an orange chocolate cake. Well, how can we resist? We had a slice of mom's chocolate cake and a couple scoops of homemade vanilla ice cream. What a great end to a great meal. Mom's cake was the bomb! A delightful orange chocolate flavor, not too heavy but still rich in flavor. Now let's talk about the atmosphere - I found that most places in Greece have this Euro-tech electronic music disco kind of beat. Not here thankfully! Music was laid back and relaxing. A very nice compliment with the meal. If you're looking for a non-touristy, excellent meal in a quiet location, not far off the beaten path, this is your place. I might also add that the price for this type of meal was quite reasonable. In the U.S., the price would have easily been doubled, so add good value to this list. My husband and I dined here on our last day of two weeks in Greece. Although we had eaten in several lovely restaurants, we both agreed that Thyme was our favorite. We started with drinks, and I had a Mojito. My husband had a Campari spritz. Both drinks were perfect. We had a lovely cheese board with a very nice selection of cheeses and a homemade chutney. Next we split the Thyme salad, which was excellent and plenty for the two of us. We split a pasta dish with mushrooms that was absolutely delicious. We both drank the house wine, one red, and one white. Both were great. Capped off dinner with the chocolate fondant for dessert. Warm, not overly sweet, served with homemade vanilla ice cream. So good! All of this was served by the son of the owner/chef. He was a pleasure to talk to, and very accommodating. The very gracious and personable chef also came out to talk with us at various times throughout the evening. The atmosphere at the restaurant was very inviting, with quiet, enjoyable music playing in the background. Everything about this dining experience was lovely!
