Shady pricing that ruined our experience.
We are seasoned travelers and asked for an itemized receipt after the bill came out significantly more expensive than anticipated versus the prices we originally saw on the menu. We noticed big discrepancies between prices listed and what we were charged for. The fish was more expensive on the bill than what it would have been in London or New York… almost €40, yet on the menu it was listed for about half of that. This was a simple white fish cooked in olive oil and absolutely does not warrant that price.
When we asked for an itemized receipt we were told that there is a “government policy” that would prevent us from seeing an itemized receipt until after payment by card, which is ridiculous and false. When we were finally brought an itemized receipt, the individual items we ordered were not listed and each line item was labeled as “food” in Greek instead of the actual things we ordered, which made us question the entire bill versus just the entrees. I can understand basic Greek words. The waitress even had the nerve to ask us if we wanted to add an additional tip. When we called out the discrepancies, we were told that it must have been a misunderstanding which it clearly was not.
Note that on the same day, we ate near the port for dinner and we were given an itemized receipt before payment without even asking for it. The staff at Kalofego clearly heard us speaking English our accents and decided they were going to try to pull a fast one on us.
This is the kind of behavior that causes travelers to never return to an island. We have been all over Greece - it is our favorite place in the world - and have never had an experience like this in the entire country, we’ve only been treated with kindness and respect. This is really disappointing to us and we’d recommend that...

If I could give it 0 stars, I would. Unacceptable and not at all professional people who are supposed to work in "hospitality" but probably don't know what that word means! Wednesday 10.7 at around18.20, a group of 6 people. We were put at a table and start ordering. The waitress was polite and informative with the orders. I should note here that we placed a large order of fresh fish, appetizers, salads and drinks. By the time the drinks and appetizers had arrived, two people from our company came in. All of a sudden we all piled in to fit everyone in, since on one side the seats were on a couch. Some of the group got up to ask for an extra chair and to order extra food. That's how it all started. The waitress came and told us that these two people can't sit at the table, while we replied that we were all together and we already fit in and we had no problem squeezing in a little. After such a dialogue, a rude person came from inside and said " well have I come to your house with so many people uninvited?" and continued "if you had told me earlier I would have moved you". We replied that we don't mind, we can all fit here and if it's such a problem let's join two tables. He replied that the tables are handmade wooden and cannot be moved. At the words of the manager, one of us reacted with impolite manner and shouted at him (a mistake from our side) and then the manager of hospitality and tourism, shouted at all of us "go away, I will not serve you anymore and if you want call the police too" ! After that a lady came and said please leave and you don't have to pay us for the first ones that were consumed ! First of all, keep in mind that we did not come to your house! Secondly, we came to a restaurant , where you do not accept reservations, as we have asked you earlier that day ! Therefore the behaviour of the person who spoke with such manner, is fully unacceptable and...

Kalofego is located on magnificent Pori beach, literally a few metres away from the sea and the fact that it doesn’t have loud music means that it doesn’t “pollute” the place.
A blend of stylish modern Greek islands architecture and elements of Ancient Greece (amphorae used as tables), but nothing kitsch.
The food is super delicious: a mix of traditional Greek delicacies with interesting combinations and twists, for example the grilled feta cheese with crust & raisin chutney. Tip: the banoffee is excellent.
What disappointed me last time I visited it (mid June 2019) was the service: there was only one poor woman trying to the job of normally 3-4 waiters. Obviously she seemed super stressed, performing however...
