We visited here Monday 14th September 2020. The brewery is located in the Platani district of town, I guess it's to the east, it's a 5 minute drive from the motorway. I don't think public transport is an option for getting here, so a car would be your best bet (or bike perhaps). The brewery is in an industrial unit and a few wooden signs on the road will guide you here. There is pallet style seating and tables outside, and a bar and well stocked fridge inside. We came to pickup some beers but due to the generosity of Kostas (brewer) spent the better part of an hour and a half to two hours here. Kostas explained all about how they started, how much everything cost, how the lockdown had impacted them and about the beers they brew. Kostas's enthusiasm was wonderful, he was so passionate about what they were doing and explained things in impeccable English, with humour throughout. We got to try quite a few of their beers and we were taken through to the storage area to see their barrel ageing project and talked through all of the beers that they currently have in the fridges. I am not sure that I have ever met a more hospitable, friendly, enthusiastic brewer than Kostas, his brother Vangelis and work colleague (name forgotten) were also lovely folk. We finished up by swapping some beers that we had from the UK, Netherlands, Denmark etc with some of the wonderful Kykao beers. I also picked up a case of 24-26 to bring home. Then Kostas took us around the back and passed on some vegetables from the little plot they have. If I lived near here I would be a regular here, the beers are great and the company truly wonderful, if you live locally or even an hour or two away please support these guys they are doing great things. Read moreWhat’s not to love. On our trip through the Peloponnese we set out to find some Greek craft beers, but up until finding Kykao we didn’t have much luck. We read about their story and the beers they were creating and loved the idea of both.
Sadly we’d come by the brewery on a Sunday, so I reached out and asked if there was a place near Patras where we could buy some of their beers. After a little chat, Kostas replied that he’d be there when we were, we were surprised and anxiously we drove to the brewery that Sunday afternoon. And there he came!
I still can’t be more grateful for the incredibly friendly welcome we got, loved hearing about the passion these guys have for their beers and the way they started out. Got the chance to taste some of their amazing beers and brought a good selection of beers with us on the rest of the trip and back home. This visit was easily one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, and the beers are amazing as well.
I hope to find many more Kykao brews in craft beer shops in the...
Read moreAwesome guys. We came to Patras and wanted a place to sleep when we weren’t in Patras, we found it on Park4Night, it just so happened the day we came was when they came back from holiday. So moods were high, and everyone was super laid back and drinking beer. We had a couple of beers (great taste) my wife had a pomegranate ale and I had an IPA. We ended up staying for 3 nights. If you are in Patras don’t miss out on good company...
