It's in the hills with a nice view over the valley and next to a large statue representing "the 3 heroic generations" of Crete, fighting against the Venetians, then the Ottomans and lastly the Germans. So the setting is nice.
We stopped for lunch. There was a couple who had just finished eating and us. Despite this the service was super slow. I know we're in Greece and I'm down with a relaxed pace of life on holiday, but still, this was sloooow. I can't imagine how long everything would have taken if the place had been full!
The food was ok, nothing exceptional, but not expensive. Also, half the items on the menu were not available. Unfortunately these happened to be all the things we wanted to order!
I didn't think the lady serving was particularly friendly, until the end when it came to pay and I tried to say thank you in Greek. That seemed to make her super happy and she was all smiles after that! So it's definitely worth making the small effort to speak a few...
Read moreThe view is like any other place in Lakki breathtaking. The first time we went to Seli the food was acceptable but not overwhelming. It has a good atmosphere and the owner, who also is the waitress, is a very kind woman that helps you a lot when it comes to picking the food/drinks. Everything seemed perfect but when we went the second time, the food was unacceptable. The chicken we had ordered smelled bad and the representation was even worse. Fat, that was obviously too old, was swimming underneath the food. The fries were very gewy and chewy and the traditional feta salad was okay but had a very weird representation where the bread was swimming in olive oil and feta. Overall the food was (almost every time) acceptable and the waitress kind. But all the irritation we had with the food kind of disgusted us, why we won‘t come back to...
Read moreMy favorite restaurant of the whole trip!
The food is so tender and juicy there is something to marvel at for how delicious it can be. Moreover: the view is astounding as your table is giving right on a massive valley and the owners are really sweet and nice (they gave us Greek yogurt and raki - a special drink to ease the digestion).
For just how relaxing this place can be it has to be the best part of the island - and the many cats in the village are full of affections to give! We ate for three courses each one of us and we would have taken more had...
