Please please don't go. I absolutely loved this place and I need to make sure next time I go that there's a free table.
Amazing environment under the shade of centenarian trees (maybe millenial? Who knows) To die for tomatoes and olive oil. Great service. And if you, like me, had a hard time understanding the local dish called tsigaristo, this is the place to taste it. I've been having tsigaristo for the last 4 years that I've been visiting Crete and was reaching my limit of understanding its appeal. Usually smelly, and very greasy. And then I had it here. Obviously not made by a chef or professional cook. It was a grandmother's food. A wholesome experience.
The service is amazing, but need to understand that this palce is an excellent example of how life should be; slow. If you want to get in, eat and get out, move along. This isn't the place for you. Look for a burger fast food place or a souvlaki gyros place.
Come here to savor each moment, each bite. And don't worry about your table being under the sun In 5 minutes it will be shadowy again.

Read moreWe were driving around the local spots outside of Chania city centre and came across this beautiful church. Whilst walking around the church we saw this tavern and decided to stop in for lunch. What a great decision. Felt like your grandma was cooking homemade food for you with love and tender care. We got half a litre of local wine, mixed vegetables and the lamb with potatoes (which is what we would call fries). Everything was so well seasoned and cooked in amazing sauces. The hand picked vegetables from their garden were so good, if I had dishes like that at home, I would be a vegetarian. The lamb fell off the bone and was so juicy, and I don’t like lamb at all. But I would get it again! If you find this tavern on your travels,...
