August 2022 - we came back to this restaurant after three months and it had not improved. Indeed it had deteriorated. The waiter tried to take a table load of orders by memory and not write anything down. He recited our orders back to us, and seemed to have got everything right, but not surprisingly a third of the starters did not turn up. When we discretely mentioned this as the main courses were arriving, we were simply told that we had not ordered them. Very frustrating.
The waiter, like in my previous visit, first enquired whether we had made a reservation. Obviously we had not made a reservation so we were ushered to obscure tables against the wall whilst tables on the edge of the terrace with the views remained free the entire evening.
The service is slow. This may be because the second waiter/waitress was too busy giving Greek lessons to tourists, and then laughing raucously as they mispronounced things. The whole terrace was exposed to it.
The tables near the garden have a mosquito infestation - so wear long trousers.
May 2022 - Many people go about the view from the terrace. In my view it is not good practice to rate a restaurant on the quality of its views. That said, this restaurant has far reaching views but they are partially over a roof with iron rods sticking g out of it, a solar hot water contraption, a chimney and countless power lines. Just saying.
The food is good - no doubt. But equally clear is that the food is not in the top league of eateries in the Chania area. The skordalia was lumpy and that shouldn’t happen. The menu has many vegetarian options, the bread that is served is good and it comes with a olive oil, salt and dried oregano, which was lovely. The service was a bit clumsy and it was frustrating that smaller groups were moved to the back of the terrace next to the ice cream fridge so that the tables on the edge of the terrace could be kept free for larger groups, even though the groups didn’t come and the tables remained...
Read moreBe careful and avoid this place! Also check the other reviews, please. Very disrespectful behavior of the owner.. Highly recommend to go to the neighbor restaurant „Kali Kardia“ - good food and very nice people who are respecting their customers.
Restaurant was open according to Google maps so we showed up at the restaurant and walked in (no sign that it‘s a „private area“ - as expected it‘s a public accessible restaurant). The owner was very unfriendly and sent us away (at the beginning we didnt even know why he‘s angry). He complained why we dare to ask if their restaurant is open because the light was off… Other people have done the same a few minutes before us.
My recommendation to the owner: Simply put a sign somewhere that you are closed and update your opening times on google maps :) This way you can avoid any similar situations in the future - as I can read from your reviews, that „open door but closed“ incident happens regularly.. Please dont be mad and unfriendly to your...
Read moreThis place is a gem! My girlfriend and I came to this cozy family restaurant after a full day at Afrata Beach. It’s just 4–5 minutes away from the beach. The menu isn’t huge, but everything we had tasted fresh and homemade.
We started with a Greek salad, and I could really feel the quality of the ingredients—simple, but super fresh. For mains, my girlfriend had the octopus cooked in olive oil and wine sauce, and I had the meatballs with rice. The spices in the meatballs were something special—definitely the highlight for me. I’d recommend them to anyone.
I also tried a bit of the octopus—it was cooked just right and the sauce was delicious. The guy who served us (I think his name was Stavros) was really polite and welcoming.
The atmosphere was perfect after a hot beach day—cool fresh air, the sound of cicadas all around, and a stunning panoramic view....
