Meraki — Restaurant in Municipality of Pylos and Nestor

Very pretty setup! An old house with great yard on different levels, nicely done with care Restaurant was fully booked which is a good sign, clientele mixed Greek and tourists, mostly big groups or families Very promising beginning

Tables nicely spread, food served on recycled paper tablecloth on top on -sadly-dirty, oily tablecloth. No salt/pepper, oil/vinegar on the table, no disinfectant and toothpicks came loose in a glass-very unhygienic with or without Covid circumstances As our table was not set, we had to wait for at least 10’ for someone to do it

Beautiful menu, nicely presented with a lot of details about origin of ingredients and specials of the day Limited wine list with very detailed description particularly about serving temperature Wines were highly priced considering the wines offered and the venue (however there was house wine available) They were definitely rising the expectations for a great dining experience

Therefore we were very surprised when red wine came -after we finished the appetisers and having reminded twice- in a cooler with ice as it was too hot to serve! On top of it, the waiter didn’t know how to open the bottle! Waiters were very sweet, polite and helpful but clearly overwhelmed, either there was a problematic kitchen or understaffed waiting personnel

Appetisers came with remarkable delay but were nice Eggplant salad excellent, fried zucchini and eggplant slices nice but a bit cold -probably cooked in advance and zucchini flowers very tasty but also cold For pre-prepared food the waiting was a confirmation of the insufficient serving organisation Beef with pasta was not warm and tasted like it was coming out of a Taperware you took from home Smoked pork chop was nice and juicy, grilled pork chop nicely cooked but dry and served not with potato salad but with chips, which was fine but not consistent with menu Beef putties were great and warm

Prices were reasonable, 15-20€ per person But then the wine added 29€ to the bill and raised cost to 30€ per person

General impression, they tried to raise the level of a simple taverna to fine dining without the skills or the training and they sabotaged their own efforts A simple and honest approach to what the know and can offer would produce better results and happier customers

All that said with love and conscious intention to offer feedback to the owners for improvement I would go back and I do recommend this restaurant if you...

New Taverna in Town! Family run traditional taverna. Meraki in Greek means 'to do something with love, care and passion for details'. They certainly have! Food is great - you can tell they use 1st quality ingredients. Many of which they grow themselves. The bifteki (Greek burger) filled with cheese is excellent as is the chicken bifteki. Keftedes (small meatballs) in tomato sauce I think are my favourite together with the green beans when they are in season. Feta cooked in pastry with honey and sesame seeds is excellent. Quite a few vegetarian and vegan dishes too. My favourite is peas and artichoke stew. Very tasty. At the moment (February) they're only open on Friday and Saturday evening. During the summer every day. Service is quick and everyone is very friendly. Fair prices - definite value for money. Bathrooms spotless! It is definitely one of our favourite places in the area now! Όντας επισκέπτης για τουρισμό στην περιοχή πήγα με πολύ καλή διάθεση και προσδοκίες καθώς προτάθηκε από δύο καλούς φίλους ντόπιους. Μου είπαν πάρε τηλέφωνο να κλείσεις τραπέζι γιατί δεν θα βρεις, είναι από τα καλύτερα μαγαζιά της περιοχής. Οντως αυτό έκανα... Με πληροφοριών πως υπάρχει τραπέζι. Ρωτάω... Τι ώρα ανοίγετε να έρθω το συντομότερο; 19:00 μου απάντησαν και έκλεισα τραπέζι στο ονομα μου. Ξεκίνησα λοιπόν με την γυναίκα μου και την κόρη μου, μετά την παραλία να φάμε και 19:10 ειμασταν εκει. Το μαγαζί ακόμα άδειο και λογικό. Ρωτάω που θα κάτσουμε και μας βάζει ο σερβιτορος στο μοναδικό τραπέζι με ήλιο. Μένω έκπληκτος και ζητάω ευγενικά να μας αλλάξει. Δυστυχώς η άμεση απάντηση ότι αυτό είναι το μοναδικό διαθέσιμο τραπέζι της κράτησης καθώς όλα τα άλλα είναι κρατημενα αλλά και ότι μην ανυσυχειτε καθότι σε 10 λεπτα θα πέσει ο ήλιος... με αφήνει κάπως αναυδο. Σκέφτομαι να φύγω αλλά στην σκέψη να μην επικρατήσει ο εγωισμος και να πεινάει κι άλλο το παιδί μέχρι να βρούμε άλλο μαγαζί είπαμε να καθησουμε. 45 λεπτά μετά η κατάσταση έχει ως εξής: δεν έχει έρθει άλλη παρέα, δύο σερβιτοροι κάθονται υπό σκια σε αναμονή των πελατών, εμείς στον ήλιο, όλα τα υπόλοιπα τεσσάρια τραπέζια είναι άδεια, ο ήλιος να βαράει και το παιδί να ζητάει να φύγουμε. Όσο ωραίο και να ήταν το πιάτο (που οφείλω να πω πως ήταν) δεν είχα διάθεση να το τελειώσω. Στην μια ώρα αποφασίσαμε να φύγουμε και ζητήσαμε λογαριασμό ενώ ακόμα τέσσερα τεσσάρια τραπέζια υπό σκιά ήταν ακόμα άδεια. Πηγαίνοντας να πληρώσω και να εκφράσω την δυσαρέσκεια μου για αυτήν εμπειρία σκέφτηκα ότι ίσως ήταν μια ατυχης πρωτοβουλία του σερβιτόρου το ότι συνέβη. Θεωρώ πως κάθε παράπονο έχει σκοπό την βελτίωση υπηρεσιών και τίποτα περισσότερο. Δυστυχώς όμως όταν έκανα παράπονα (και προς τιμήν του ήρθε άμεσα ο ιδιοκτήτης) ότι "δεν έμεινα ικανοποιημένος καθώς μια ώρα φάγαμε στον ήλιο και θα μπορούσατε να διαχειριστείτε διαφορετικά την κατάσταση" δυστυχώς με άφησαν έκπληκτο τα επιχειρήματα που άκουσα.... "Κλεισατε αργά τραπέζι", "τα άλλα τεσσάρια τραπέζια είναι κρατημενα εδω και δύο ημέρες και δεν ξέρω τι ώρα θα έρθουν για να σας έδινα ένα από αυτά". Καταλήξαμε ότι οι απόψεις μας είναι διαφορετικές καθώς δεν έγινε κατανοητό το παράπονο μου. Ο καθένας άλλωστε έχει την δική του άποψη και δεν τίθεται θέμα επιβολής. Δεν έχω σκοπό να δυσφυμισω την επιχείρηση μιας και η υπάρχουσα βαθμολογία προς την ποιότητα γεύσεων αποδεικνύει το αντίθετο αλλά στον τομέα της εξυπηρέτησης και αντίδρασης κατά την άποψή μου ήταν κακή, χωρίς αντανκλαστικά και αφήνοντας αρνητική γεύση κατά την...
