ROOMS, TAVERNA AND HIKES REVIEW After 12 days and nights here, twice... i can report on a place as remote as a scorned ex', with rooms and a taverna. ROOMS: the rooms are as basic as a toddler. The pics tell the story. The mattresses are as firm as the landscape (hack: I put a banket between the mattress and the base sheet). The bathrooms are pretty old school, and could use a post hook on the shower head, and plug for the sink. Theres a fan. I was here in may, and the weather was perfect for warm days, cool water, cool nights. The hot water takes a while to travel the distance, but comes on warmer than a chilli scone. The rest of the rooms function well, with some great views. The walls are thin, so you'll need to be discrete with ypur Cretan luvvin moves. If there's a way to make your stay more enjoyable, the crew of Albanian guys will do it. They're unbelievable..it feels like you are in their home, as their guests...well, actually, you are..and they're super hospitable. Sadly, at the time I write this, no wifi in the rooms, but the general phone reception is good. RESTAURANT. The place has a tradionally orientated menu. Everything I had was at least very good, and occasionally exceptional. Many ingredients are sourced on the farm. I want to do shout outs to several dishes, but I won't. Choose what you fancy, and sit back and relax. The house wines are much better than the price would lead you to think. And again, the hospitality is wonderful. These guys are as happy to see you as they are each other...and that's saying something. NEARBY: The next town over has 4 restaurants. Check Google for reviews. They're also really good BEACH: Amazing as you can see, and around 50m end to end...perfect! Stones get hot, so footwear is essential. HIKES: You need the right footwear. I'm used to hikes that meander, go up and down a bit, you need to keep your mind on where you step from time to time. Not so here. At times I was as scared as an inexperienced mountain climber, trying to climb a mountain. There are sections of some hikes, where if they were a bit steeper, you'd need ropes. Having said that, I saw more over 60s, of all shapes than a bingo parlour...so what do I know? I made it alive and saw great things. Enjoy marmara. It'd as great as my friend told me it would be. Tell the guys the 192cm Australian...
Read moreIn a world when good servicing and attitude is most important to leave you a good experience and memory of the place, this Tavern fails so bad. Staff is for firing, never seen such bad attitude and non client orientated personal. No i am not talking about 1 of the staff - all of them. They only want 4-5 people and more groups. They do not care if you are 1-2 persons, you are not welcome to sit on their very special reserved 4-5 seater tables, because if 4-5 people come they will loose revenue and they are showing you this every possible moment. It is bad for such beautiful place and view, pretty good kitchen, but bad attitude and making you feeling unwanted in that place will leave you a bad taste, no matter the food. Better stay hungry until Loutro, where there is enough competition to make the good personal attitude available. DO...
Read moreIt's the serenity of this place that makes you enjoy the scenery, the crystal blue water and savour the delicious dishes prepared in wood oven! I never had a better staka in Crete than here, a surprising briam and now I am waiting our shrimps-spaghetti! We stayed 3 nights in the rooms next to the tavern, when the last boat taxi leaves, the beach is all for you and the tavern is there waiting the only and ones guests! Amazing time, sometimes visited by vips, but if you stay there, you are the vip!!! For more adventure you can walk up the Aradena Gorge or hike until Agios Pavlos. Doing that you will enjoy the delicious dishes even more! Oh I forgot the homemade bread! Just perfect! Unfortunately they don't have Charma, the best beer in Crete, but ok I will...
