The first night we've arrived in Sithonia, we went to Panos. It was 11PM and hoped we're not too late. We weren't as they keep it open until midnight. The scenery with the moonlight on the sea was beautiful. The terrace is very spacious with enough room between the tables. The personnel very friendly and eager to please. The esthetics of the whole place is just perfect and even the bathroom very clean. Fast service, no matter the hour. The food? I'm speechless. At this moment I'm convinced that it's the best restaurant in Greece and it's certainly my favorite from around the world. Too bad is 900km away from home. Out of this world delicious: barley with seafood, shrimps in garlic butter sauce, grilled eggplant with feta, lobster with spaghetti. Also very delicious: sardines files, chocolate cake, cheesecake, Mille Feuille, feta, cheese croquettes . Good: fried zucchini, mussels with rice. Good but nothing impressive (again, one portion is more than enough for two). The portions... That first night we've ordered the fried zucchini and 2 barley with seafood when the waitress said "NO! One portion is enough." It would have been very easy to take my money and shut up, right? Anyways. Amused, we took her advice. Indeed, the portion was really big. I'd say 3 generous portions in one (we ate there and took the rest back at the hotel and they were like two smaller portions left). The taste and texture? Unlike anything I've eaten before. So perfect. The same, when we had the lobster with spaghetti, that was more of a 4 portions plate instead of two. Took the rest of it with us and made for another lunch the next day. I see no point in leaving it there to be thrown away, especially when it's something SO damn good. They brought the alive lobsters at the table to let us choose the one we want. The waiter prepared the lobster for us. It was delicious. Water and desert were always on the house. What I've recently ordered and surprised me, was the bulk wine. Generally speaking I don't have high expectations for bulk wine but it was so perfectly flavored... I loved it! We ate around the whole peninsula and I have to say that given their great service and amazing tasty food with very generous portions, their prices are very good. If you are in Halkidiki/Sithonia, I beg you go and try this place! You won't...
Read moreWhen I meet a person on a remote place, that according to my view is a quality person I try to take advantage by asking: what else? Any good restaurant recommendation? This time the remote place was Porto Carras beach. The recommended place was Panos sea food taverna. After 10 minute amazing ride thru a pine tree forest, we arrived at the waterfront nicely maintained restaurant. The service was great. One star so far for location and service. But the food? Let's try to assess the number of stars. Grilled Sardines ( without the bones-married) : if you need to add salt on sardine and if the grilled sardine is soft, obviously is no good. Grilled octopus: if a party of 5 (including 2 octopus lover kid) leave octopus on the plate, obviously the octopus is terrible). The Fried calamari was a fried calamari. It was cooked correctly and it was crispy, gets a passing grade. The pork chop was dry inside. The girl who ate the pancheta was happy with it. Another star here. The salad was so overwhelmingly huge, good for 5 starving persons. Nobody had the energy to mix it. The prices were low based on the quantity of the plates, the location and service. Overall all the adults agreed that the food was no good. But everything else was. Final grade:3 stars. Am I going back to place? YES. I have a feeling, I need to give it another try. I have a feeling this place can do much better....
Read moreThe location of the restaurant is fantastic - at a small bay in Chalkidiki, the view is magnificent. The restaurant itself is very well kept and nice. Restroom is amazingly clean! It is a quite expensive restaurant though. I would love to pay the price if the food was high quality. I cannot make very broad conclusions, as we purchased only 2 dishes, however they they are very indicative for the lical cusine - htipiti and grilled octopus. The htipiti was so fake, that we didn't even finish it. There was no chese at all, maybe sоme low-quality quark. No backed and marinated hot paprika, but some spicy thing that was not recogniseable. The octopus was the same - if smbd would close my eyes and would put this thing in my mouth, I would only be able to say that it was on a grill. No taste of octopus at all. We were asking each other if smbd already invented "fake octopus", like the invented "fake meat". And the olive oil? It was just coloured sunflower oil, or olive oil, but 15th press with high temperature and high pressure. Hence, apologies, but for the same price you drive the several kilometers to Neos Marmaras and gonto TaKymata to have high quality food and an authentic...
