I fell in love with this place. There is no better restaurant / tavern in eastern Crete - the food is always fresh and delicious, prices remain low, the view is astonishing, and the owner is the best. I have visited this tavern several times on my first trip to Crete a few years back, and we were always happy with my wife to do the 30 min drive from Sitia to eat there and watch the sunset. When I was lucky enough to visit the eastern part of the island once again this year, I simply stayed within the Myrsini village, so I could enjoy a great meal with my extended family each evening. And so we did, almost each day for a week and a half, except for the few occasions when we cooked by ourselves or tried some other restaurants on the way home. I recommend the appetizers especially - order a few options from the menu and share it with your companions to fully appreciate the variety and quality of the Crete food. I need to mention the view - wow. Beautiful sunsets, sea, mountains; in the night - lights of Agios Nicolaos far on the horizon and hundreds stars above. Tavern is full of small, beautiful decorations - each one trying to tell it's story - photos from the old newsapers, pieces of various art, paintings, flowers. All together creating a place where you feel like visiting your favourite aunt, or grandma. You just feel the warmth and coziness immediately as you pass the doorstep. From practical point of view - appetizers were 3-6 eur, main courses and salads 3-9 eur, drinks around 3-5 eur. For hungry family of four (+1 year old child) with drinks and wine our bill was between 40-65 eur depending on how much we ordered. Always left the tavern with smiles on our faces knowing we have enjoyed a great meal, good wine and astonishing view. Truly, honestly,...

I recently discovered Manolis’s ,"on the road" Tavern, known by its Greek name “Kathodón”, nestled in the charming village of Myrsini in Crete. The setting is simply breathtaking—especially at sunset when the sky ignites with vibrant hues that dance across the sea. In fact, travelers online describe it as a place “with great views of the bay” that you “may not want to miss” .

The menu is a celebration of authentic Cretan cuisine, with every dish reflecting the rich culinary traditions of the island:

Snails (“hochlious”), prepared the classic Cretan way—I absolutely loved them.

Rooster with traditional pasta, tender and flavorful in every bite.

Dolmadakia (stuffed vine leaves), perfect little parcels of savory goodness.

Liver, cooked to perfection—rich and deeply satisfying.

And of course, local wine, which paired beautifully with all the dishes.

Everything tasted superb, and the fair prices made the experience even sweeter. It felt wonderfully unpretentious yet deeply authentic.

Don't miss the sunset, the healthy and unbelievably tasteful cretan food and the warm hospitality—all at great value. It truly is a hidden gem...

Very good restaurant with an unbeatable quality-price ratio. Excellent food: dolmades, staka omelette, meat balls are especially good. The restaurant is nicely decorated, and being built on a cliff-edge, it offers a breathtaking view of the sea, mountains and islands, and the bay of Agios Nikolaos. It is worth a detour to dine with a view of an exhuberant sunset. It is recommended to place a reservation, as the restaurant is small with few tables.

We loved so much this place. The view is unmatched, the atmosphere so truly Cretan, as well as the food. The quality/price ratio is probably the best I’ve experienced in my life, and I’ve been in a lot or restaurants. My advice: go there early, like at 19:30, so you’ll get the sunset and there’s less people, so the service is faster.
