Romantic Taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Southern Corfu

I was a travel writer for decades, and this is going to go down as one of the most unforgettable dining experiences I have ever had. We stumbled upon the place while driving twisting roads on a dark night, needing directions to our Airbnb. Michael, the owner, was so kind and helpful, with decent English, that we decided to come back for dinner the next night. We are SO glad we did! Michael and Anna have created a home away from home, where they serve foods almost entirely gathered from their adjacent organic farm. Following the old taverna tradition, they invite you into the kitchen to see what they have prepared for the night—amazing dishes like marinated octopus salad, bronzini (sea bass) with lemon and garlic, rich beef stew with a complex, cinnamon-scented sauce. And on and on—all with ultra-fresh produce and even fresh pork and chicken from the farm. And then maybe an olive oil cake for dessert, or fresh yogurt topped with their grapes simmered in cognac. Romantic Taverna is a beautiful, atmospheric restaurant sat in a little hilltop village overlooking the east coast of Corfu Island.

The lady who served us immediately made us feel welcomed and comfortable as she sat us at our table at the front of the building. Just as we were struggling to decide what we wanted to eat, we were invited to have a look at the food to get an idea of what was on offer. The smells as she lifted the pan lids to reveal the fresh, home-cooked dishes were amazing! For starters, we had a honey baked feta and some roasted veg with feta and herbs. As our main we tried the traditional Corfiot dish pastitsada. All of this we highly recommend. On top of all this, we were even treated to garlic bread and a brownie ice cream dessert on the house! We were surprised with how little the meal cost us compared to the great quality of the food.

I could confirm that here is the best authentic Greek cuisine that you should not missed to try and they have special dance show every SATURDAY!

Their great foods are made from fresh products and with love!

Not so many choices on the menu list, but all that listed are what you should not missed!!! However they have always special MENUS of the day 😬😬😬

House wines and homemade Grappa are also recommend to try 😉
