We stopped by for a light lunch — a Greek salad, a plate of souvlaki, and water. The food was decent, but nothing to justify the €34 price tag. Still, we were ready to enjoy it… until the service made it unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.
From the moment we ordered, both the waiter and the owner made it clear our modest choices were a problem. We were asked multiple times if that was “really all,” with increasingly passive-aggressive undertones. When the bill came, the owner made sure to point out that service was included — only to then scold us for not leaving extra. He asked our nationality and launched into a mini monologue about how “the French never tip.” Classy.
We didn’t walk into a fine dining restaurant expecting judgment — just a casual meal and a smile. Instead, we got a guilt trip and the feeling that we were somehow responsible for the restaurant’s struggling business.
Here’s some advice: if customers aren’t spending enough to your taste, maybe try being warm and welcoming. And absolutely do not come here just for a coffee — unless you enjoy being stared down...
Read moreIn my opinion, the Village is one of the best taverns in southern Corfu. This family own business welcomes the guests with daily dishes cooked only from fresh ingredients (some of the vegetables from their own garden). We have also tried out all the local dishes (e.g. soufrito, pastisada etc.) and beside the extraordinary taste I have also appreciated the tenderness of the meat (most of that dishes are cooked with veal meat). The hosts are very friendly and the overall atmosphere is...
Read moreExcellent restaurant located just off of the main North / South road in southern Corfu. We had a late lunch on the covered patio under a grape and bougainvillea arbor. The Village restaurant had a great chilled vibe with some low-key music playing in the background. We ordered the moussaka and the lamb braised in lemon and garlic served on a bed of rice. The portions where large. The moussaka was delicious, a perfect blend of tomato, potato base and a bechamel topping. The lamb was fall-of -the bone tender and so flavorful. The lemon sauce complemented the lamb shank perfectly. Reasonable prices and great value for the money. The hosts were super friendly and again the atmosphere was perfect. We will definitely make a repeat...
