This was such a charming experience, there was no menu and Amalia doesn't speak English, but she showed us what she had in her pots and pans, "bugs bunny" for the rabbit and happily chatting into Google translate on her phone to communicate with us. We didn't really know for sure what we were going to get and she brought us out a huge feast of very traditional Greek fare. Everything was delicious and afterwards when we already stuffed , she brought out a sweet treat of some very thick yogurt she made herself with sweet grapes in a boozy/ Christmas spice tasting sauce, which we somehow managed to eat despite being full as it was such a yummy fresh treat. Amalia herself has wonderful energy and despite not speaking English, I couldn't help feeling fond of her. She appears to be a power house of a woman that just loves to host, generous heart and laughing all the time. Thank you for a wonderful time 😁

Please note to take some cash as there is not an option to pay by card. Although Amalia insisted we could pay her another day, we drove to the nearest cash machine 15mins away and came...

We stopped here for lunch as we saw this taverna on google maps on our way to Myrtos & there weren’t many to choose from. What a great surprise. It was a small taverna in a little village, you just follow the windy road down into the village. Yia yia was cooking in the kitchen and showed us a selection of about 4-5 meat dishes and 4-5 vegetarian dishes on the stove and in the oven. We chose all vegetarian dishes as we weren’t too hungry and enjoyed all of them. Even the bread was delicious! It felt like a really authentic experience. They kept coming up to us and offering us extras. (They definitely love feeding you like true Greeks). The local people of the village were all eating there too. There was a language barrier but you can get by. We won’t forgot this experience anytime soon....

Mein Fazit absolut Empfehlenswert. Das Ambiente ist der Ortschaft...

A precious gem in Crete. Very welcoming place with food cooked by Amalia herself. You get invited to the kitchen where you can see the pots and choose what you feel like eating. It is my second visit here, after two years, and I am still amazed by this authentic experience. It is nice to speak some Greek, but I am sure it would work the same without any knowledge. I am sure I will come back the next time I am around.
