Drove past a sign for the village taverna in the village we are staying and couldnt find it anywhere on the maps. Decided to go for a walk and asked them whether they were serving food. They seemed overjoyed to see us and and wiped down all of the table from the tree dropping some leaves above, and brought us out some wine. We asked what was on the menu and the owner read the menu out to us - it was in his head not on paper. The menu was a range of traditional greek taverna grill food (e.g. chicken souvlaki, pork souvlaki, chicken breast grilled, lamb chops and steak but he also listed courgette fries and aubergine skewers as well as his own greek salad. Opted for chicken souvlaki, greek salad and fries and this all arrived fairly with a smile and friendly Greek chatter about the church and the local priest. Couldn't fault the meal and the whole thing came to 19 euros which was so silly for the amount we ate that we paid them 30 under much protest from the owners.
If you want a quiet traditional bite to eat up in the hills in a sleepy little village, then please do give this one a go. Lovely friendly owners who couldn't do more to feed us and make us...
Read moreHaving been past this taverna many times over the last few years, we’d never seen it open. However a local person informed us it is closed on Mondays but opens at 6.00pm every other day. There are a few tables outside, but the taverna itself is tucked just down an alley. When we arrived at about 7.00 there was one person having a coffee. We were asked what we wanted to eat - I got the feeling we could have asked for anything. We asked what there was and were told the menu - chicken souvlaki, pork steak, pork souvlaki, salads etc. The place filled up as the evening went on, mostly with locals but a few tourists too. The food was excellent, the service was good and the atmosphere was relaxed and just seemed so genuine. Cost for 2 large beers, 1/2 litre wine, 3 souvlaki sticks, huge plate of fried potatoes and a Greek salad big enough for 3-4 and bread came to €30. Definitely...

Small churches around, kids playing in the courtyard and side alleys. Food was great and inexpensive. Locals having drinks or a meal. Nothing fancy but a...
