Traveling south we came to Lykoporia hoping to find a place for lunch. What a discovery to find this gem! We were warmly greeted and led to the open sitting area viewing the sea. We were mildly surprised there were only empty tables. We quickly learned most were reserved, as we were a little early at 2pm. The menu was quite traditional with a fish focus but plenty of other options. Being sensitive to gluten, we asked our server about it. We didn’t get the usual “gluten?” look, but a response of understanding and she explained that they used gluten-free flour for the fried zucchini, which we ordered and loved. I wanted fish, so we were led back to the cooler to inspect the catch and decided on the cod. It was beautifully cooked, and delicious. My sister ordered the lamb ribs. The six ribs were served as if cut from a rack of lamb. Each rib’s lobe of meat was tender and deliciously spiced. We shared our dishes and a green salad with finely sliced avocados, cranberries and a balsamic glaze. Heavenly! The red house wine was good with the ribs. We finished with a chocolate covered ice cream on a stick, complements of the house! Combined with the sound of the waves of the blue, blue sea and quiet conversation of the tables as they filled up was a truly memorable experience. The meal was served by both our knowlegable server and one, assumed the proprietor who spoke to us with mock seriousness and a twinkle in her eye, as if we were old friends. There were three tables out on the small pier, I assumed for later meals when the sun was less intense. Hopefully we will be able to drop in on our way back...
Read moreStunning Views and Lovely Atmosphere, But a Few Letdowns. This taverna offers absolutely breathtaking views, worth visiting for the scenery alone. The atmosphere was wonderful, and the staff were kind and welcoming, which added to the overall experience. However, we did find the prices a little on the high side. It felt a bit unreasonable to be charged €1.50 extra each for simple condiments like mayonnaise and butter. Unfortunately, we also didn’t enjoy the fried calamari, which was a bit of a letdown. All in all, it's a beautiful spot with great ambiance, but a few things could be improved to better match...
