Our plans for the day in Agios Ioannis had fallen through so we decided to head up to Kissos to see what was there and get some lunch. Stou Sofokli Taverna looked nice so we went in to be greeted by the owner Eleni. There was only one other person in at the time (we have lunch earlier than Greeks!) and we got a nice table outside with a bit of a breeze and nice view. It was terribly hot and humid at the coast so this was a nice relief.

We were offered some tsipero with a grape in which was very tasty and ordered a small salad (she does half portions of most things which is a great idea) a half portions of Greek salad and gigantes and a pork souvlaki with chips, all to share. All the food was great and we had some nice barrel wine with it. The olive oil in the salad was lovely and the feta really tasty which is not the case in every place. We love gigantes and these were great. Sauce and oil were mopped up with nice bread. The pork was a single large skewer but all meat and very nice. I’m afraid that my picture of the food is not very good as we’d eaten most of it :)

Eleni is a very interesting lady and told us of her travels and also gave us great information on what to see in and around the village (in particular the lovely old church which unfortunately was closed). We were also offered some lovely hazelnut cake.

We were worried that our day was going to be wasted as our previous plans had fallen through but actually we had a lovely time is Kissos with a great meal and the best hospitality you could hope for. A lucky find! She also sells some clothes in a little ‘shop’ at the back of the taverna and has rooms upstairs which would make a lovely place to stay away from the heat on the coast. Highly...

We had an incredible meal at this local Greek restaurant! Everything felt authentic — from the warm atmosphere to the traditional dishes full of rich Mediterranean flavors. The food was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. We especially loved the grilled meats, fresh salads, and homemade desserts — all tasted like true Greek home cooking.

The staff were so friendly and welcoming, making us feel like part of the family.

Ενας εξαιρετικός πρόσφατα ανακαινισμένος χώρος (πανδοχείο & ταβέρνα), ζεστά δωμάτια και προσαρμοσμένος άπλετος χώρος για μεγάλα φαγοπότια, ελληνική κουζίνα, με «βουνίσιες γαστρονομικές εμπειρίες», καλές τιμές και για το τέλος η παραδοσιακή μαγευτική καρυδόπιτα. Συγχαρητήρια στην εγκάρδια Ελένη για την κουζίνα της και την προσπάθεια της να μας ευχαριστεί σε κάθε γεύμα ή δείπνο που κάναμε στην ταβέρνα, όσες μέρες μείναμε εκεί. Δεν χρειάστηκε να αλλάξουμε χωριό ή εστιατόριο. Εξάλλου το κρύο και το χιόνι σε συνδιασμο με το καλό φαγητό του «Σοφοκλη» λειτούργησε ώστε να κάνουμε τέλειες τις μίνι διακοπές μας, χωρίς μετακινήσεις και στην κίνηση του Πηλιου. Ηταν όλα υπέροχα και το προτείνω ανεπιφύλακτα για όποιον νέο ή παλιό επισκέπτη, ώστε να θυμηθεί την πραγματική αληθινή ελληνική φιλοξενία… Δεν ονοματίζω φαγητά γιατί είναι μια έκπληξη όλα, καθώς και η χαλαρή ατμόσφαιρα που παραγγέλνεις ώστε να νοιωθεις σαν να βρίσκεσαι στο σπίτι της «γιαγιάς σου». Η Ελένη με το ζεστό της χαμόγελο και χιούμορ μας βοήθησε με το μενού καθώς τρώγαμε πρωινό, μεσημεριανό αλλά και βραδινό στον ίδιο άνετο χώρο χρησιμοποιώντας και το εξαιρετικό ευρύχωρο πηλιοριτικο μπαλκόνι-αυλή της επιχείρησης. Θα ξαναπάμε σίγουρα. Η νέα επιχείρηση στην προσπάθεια της, δείχνει πετυχημένη, με διάθεση να την ανεβάσει σε ψηλότερο επίπεδο, την παλιά αίγλη του Σοφοκλη, συγχαρητήρια στην επιχείρηση.
