Diafokereikos is a beautiful gem serving authentic, traditional Greek food far from the madding crowd. There are no hired chefs here. The family does it all and they do it very well. They are serving you their best effort and pride is in the meal. Every dish that we ate was very nice from the Eggplant Salad, and Stuffed Aubergine with Feta cheese, to Bougiourdi, and the rabbit stew! Eating a great traditional Greek meal in an historic building that has survived centuries of earthquakes is a rarity on Zakynthos. If you are not hungry, then go and taste the wine and take a tour. This restaurant is a living museum that tells the story of the survival struggles of the families who have lived in it since it was built in 1680. The humble, old world architecture is magnificent. The centuries old patina, the yellow lichens on the stone walls, the original forged iron hardware locks and hinges are fantastic. Be sure to see the historic kitchen and hear the explanations of its ingenious features. It is still owned and operated by descendants of the original inhabitants. They are beautiful souls who will welcome you and warm your heart. Diafokereikos is about more than the meal. You will love this experience from...
Read moreA place worth coming to the whole island for. Inside an old dilapidated Venetian villa the owners have created something unique and original both in terms of cuisine and architecture. You won't find this kind of food by the sea side. This place is only for the gourmet traveler interested in true local specialities. We only learned of it because we were told by a local. It is not featured in any guides or lists of recommended places to visit in Zakynthos.
We had the Lamb Kafroumas as well as some ladotiri cheese as a starter, with complimentary bread. The food is melt-in-your-mouth good and if you don't know what to take, just let the waiter suggest something. But beware, he is very convincing 😁.
The portion was large enough for me not to be able to finish it. I blame the ladotiri though. We asked for the food to be packaged to go and as a gift we were given extra lamb! The food is still wonderful the next day when served cold. The prices were also a lot more customer friendly than by the sea.
We strongly recommend this restaurant, especially if you have your own means of...
Read moreThis is a truly special dining experience. This place was recommended to us by a good friend. The moment we walked in, we were welcomed like old friends. Soula, was an absolute delight, so warm and helpful. She took the time to explain the menu and even shared a few local tips with us.
And then there was Kosta, who was just as wonderful. He gave us a little history lesson about the building, which has been standing since the big earthquake in the 1950s. Knowing that added such a special touch to the whole experience. You could really feel the love and care that has gone into preserving the place and its traditions.
Now, the food, it was incredible! Every dish was bursting with flavor, combining the best of traditional Greek cuisine with the unique tastes of the island. It was like a journey through Zakynthos on a plate. You can tell they use the freshest ingredients, and the care they put into each dish really shines through. If you’re in Zakynthos, make sure to stop by. You...
