We wanted to do a tour of a coffee roastery, found ChicaBean online and send an email to the address given on the website. Abby replied very quickly, so we booked a tour at ChicaBean. We got there from Guatemala City with an Uber. As we arrived at the roastery we were warmly welcomed by Abby and introduced to the history of ChicaBean. We were very much impressed by their business model by adding value to roasting the bean and having the company run by female only, starting from growing and harvesting the coffee beans. We were delighted to meet the first female certified roastery master of Guatemala, Evelin, and could watch her during the roastery process. Not only did we learn about the roastery but also about the social engagement of ChicaBean by taking care of young girls and involving them with internships in the coffee business as well as some of the funds were directly given back to them to support their individual education. The whole company and especially our tour guide Abby is a very inspiring person who loves her work. She not only shares a lot of details from harvesting and roasting to brewing coffee with the visitors but also her enthusiasm and love for coffee. We can encourage everyone who visits Antigua or Guatemala City to visit ChicaBean, thank you again for an...
Read moreThe food was good, but the coffee not so good! We ordered motuleños eggs and a Guatemalan, with orange juice and a cup of coffee. Although the place has coffee in its name, the coffee we tasted lacked body, nothing special. Maybe with the different methods, it could be better. The Guatemalan was good, the best part being the cheese omelette (you can have another type). The motuleños had too much fat, which made the tortilla soft and very difficult to eat. The best part of that breakfast was supposed to be the smoked chorizo, but it had so little that you couldn’t taste it.
It’s not bad for the price, but it could...
Read moreWe spend a morning at the Chica bean headquarters (cafe and roastery) for a coffee tour and tasting. Josué Martinez and Abbigail are true coffee experts who learnt us so much in only three hours time. Their sustainable mission is so important for the Guatemalan community that is involved with the firm. The absolute definiton of fair trade coffee in my opinion. Highly recommend stopping by to taste their awesome locally grown and roasted coffee or take a tour to get to know all about Guatemalan coffee + their story.
Thanks so much for the awesome experience and hope to visit...
