I booked myself and my friends in for a cheeky little Saturday date, the beginning was delightful. Drinks were scrumptious and couldn’t fault the starters or mains. However I will mention the fact that I felt as though I was sat in the Amazon rain forest, I wouldn’t be surprised if the heating in there is the sole reason for global warming. I was sweating as if I’d never been in a hot climate before. There was a bald bar man who kept looking directly at my friend who happens to be visibly a minor which obviously made her quite disconcerted. Then we got on to dessert and what an absolute catastrophe that was, firstly the ice cream I wanted was completely gone which fair enough isn’t necessarily something they can control but should inform their staff that it is gone so that people know before they order. Instead we ordered a different flavour and when it finally dawned on us…I can’t even fathom the words to describe it…I used to work in Michelin star restaurant and when I tell you this ice cream was undercooked it was RAW. I’ll be shocked if I don’t get a dodgy stomach from it, I mean seriously raw ice cream???? And then it just goes downhill from here, we went to go and pay the bill and I got a 12p “donation” fee, donation for what I’d love to know. Then to make matters worse it was £4.30 for a lemonade??? I mean have you ever heard the like??? I could literally get two litre bottles of lemonade for cheaper so what on earth are they doing to it in order for it to be that expensive. Anyway, lovely evening will...
Read moreVery poor and embarrassing experience this evening having been asked to leave a table that wasn't marked as reserved after sitting there for twenty minutes, even after checking twice with bar staff that it was alright for me to sit there as I was dining alone. The staff were rude in their approach and made me feel as if I had done something wrong to inconvenience other diners as they apparently had a waiting list for tables that I had not been told about. It seems the bar staff didn't know about it either. I suggested I might sit outside, even though it was by then dark, but was told although I could, I would have to chose from a substantially limited menu. I clarified this nonsensical menu limitation, given I had been seated by bar staff in one location, then asked to move after twenty minutes by other staff, but was told I couldn't order from the restaurant menu if I moved outside, regardless of how the situation arose. This pub does not seem to cater for single travellers and gives precedence to larger groups. The staff do not understand the basic tenets of English hospitality in that you make the stranger feel welcome. There are far better places to dine in Guernsey and I'd give this place a miss, particularly if you are in a small group or have cycled to the west coast specifically to dine here. Larger groups may wish to think twice about visiting too until management rethink...
Read moreHaven’t been to the Rockie in some time so was really looking forward to going in for lunch. Staff were friendly and attentive. However, the food was a massive disappointment! We ordered haloumi fries to start, with sourdough bread and dips. Unfortunately the haloumi was thick and cold and tasted of unclean oil. The sourdough bread was nice but the basalmic and olive oil were mixed together so the oil sat on top of the vinegar which also wasn’t a pleasant flavour. Next came the fish and chips, fish was cooked well inside but greasy batter. Homemade chips were solid, greasy and tasted uncooked all the way through. My husband had chicken burger which was dry and unappetising, also had same issue with chips. We did notice yesterday that other tables in our area were kept waiting for a long time for their meals. We had been coming to the Rockie for years before the management change and always had amazing food. This is the second time we’ve tried under the new people and have had the same deflated experience. Unfortunately we won’t be coming back this time and wouldn’t recommend, very disappointed. Sorry...
